Default Front bumper variance

Is the front chrome trim bar in the radiator air inlet different for different model years?
Parts diagrams appear to show earlier models to have a smooth contour across the front face, whereas my 2004 has concavities where the black bumper blades locate.
If they are different, are they interchangeable?

The parts catalogue shows a part # change for MY2001, and another just after the MY2002 intro. The bumper beam behind and the rabbits teeth overrriders also show part # changes.

I suspect they may not be interchangeable, but if you have parts to hand, there's no harm trying. The cost of a new splitter vane will make your eyes water.

Does anyone know for certain what MYs have a smooth arched chrome splitter vane profile?
.... as opposed to the 2004 ones that have a notched profile where the bumperettes mount.

If I understand correctly, you mean one that looks like this:

If that's the case, then you should be OK with any MY up to 2000. My '98 has the one pictured above (HJA6451BC). OEM wasn't cheap when I bought one in 2004, now you could buy a small DD...

Thanks for this. The picture helps a lot. Could you provide the end-to-end length measurement for me?

Tricky as it's not possible to get a straight line measurement when it's fitted.

The air intake 'mouth' is approximately 97cm (38" in old money) across, with a gap of ~1cm at each end Say ~95cm end to end for the splitter.
