DSC/ABS issue on a 2003 XK
I keep getting the infamous DSC System alarm message and the ABS light. It is coming from the right front wheel according to my scanner. It sometimes will go away for many miles and sometimes it comes back every few minutes.
The module is different for the 2003 and never cars so it does not have the same solder joint issue
I have tried the following.
Swapped the right front sensor with the left front. No change
Checked for wheel bearing play. None
Cleaned the pulse wheel for the sensor even though it did not look bad. No change
Replaced the wire from the sensor to the connector below the air cleaner on the inner fender. No change.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Agree with Motorman, My 2003 would show amber light and after turned off and started again, the error went away for while., Replced the R.F. harness and still had error. Finally got a code for the Steerimg Angle Sensor, replaced it and that fixed the problem.

Well, while I have never seen one fail either and have replaced the pigtail from the sensor to the inner fender,
Is there any other piece of the wiring harness that just unplugs and is easily replaced?
I have never seen or heard of a steering angle sensor. Also, i have no codes for that...maybe yet.
Can you tell me a little bit more about this sensor and where to find it?
Thanks for your help thus far guys.

While I have not seen many faults with the ABS modules themselves on the 4.2 liter cars, the earlier modules can fail with a PERMANENT C1145 or C1155.
I did everything I could think of with a few 2000MY ABS modules and I finally swapped it into a KNOWN GOOD car. The fault followed the module so I knew it was faulty.
I just replaced the module(s), wrote C1145 (or C1155) and thew it in the scrap module pile.
C1095 is very repairable in the early cars but some faults require more diagnosis.
If the wire harness is continuity checked from sensor to module, then maybe the module can be sent out for repair?

Greg,
A couple of possibilities come to mind. There could be some corrosion on the connector pins of the DSC module that are interfering with the signal from the front right wheel speed sensor. It's also possible that the wiring between the DSC module and the right front wheel speed harness connector under the air cleaner is damaged, causing an intermittent connection. Rodents love warm engine bays and love to chew on wiring...
You can test the wiring by detaching the main connector from the DSC module and the wheel speed sensor pigtail harness from the main harness at the point under the air cleaner. The wires for the right front sensor are Yellow and Green and connect to the DSC module at connector pins 33 and 34 respectively.
Test for low resistance on each wire between the two connectors (near 0 ohms). While testing for continuity, flex the wires along all exposed sections to see if the resistance suddenly increases or becomes an open circuit. Then test both wires for a short to ground (test from both ends), and test for the two wires shorted together.
You can download the wiring schematics at the link below. The DSC schematic is on pdf page 55.

2006 XK8....
I had a left rear wheel speed sensor fail in March 2024 at 126,570 miles. The OBDII code was C1236. I replaced it with an aftermarket one from SNG Barratt, part no. XR822753. That indeed fixed the problem. Nothing wrong with either the hub or the wiring harness....

I'm struggling to understand how an SAS fault would trigger a code for the right front wheel speed sensor.... What code was triggered in your car?
