Default X350 rear outer universal joints replacement

Hi. After spending the last week looking for a rear off side universal joint for my x350 2003 xj6 petrol which is showing abs / dsc fault lights on dash. Had codes read and says rear off side abs sensor missing a tooth. I have looked at reluctor ring and all seems ok no missing tooth. I am looking to replace the whole outer universal joint with new ring fitted but am finding it near impossile to find new or used / reconditioned part for my x350. My questions are why would code reader say tooth is missing when it is not and does any one know where I can get a cheap universal joint from in the uk?
Many thanks in addvance.

Thats just a generic diag staement of a possible cause. Not the cause. Clean the ring and the sensor and refit. Make sure that you dont have a loose wheel bearing. Past that if it still comes on replace the sensor. Or you can use a dvom or scanner to monitor ac signal generation and if no signal you need a sensor. Personally i check at the sensor connector to eliminate a abs or upstream wiring issue. Those ujoints virtually never need to be replaced

Default X350 outer cv joint

Thank you for your help. After your advice I purchased a abs sensor for £10.50 from ebay. Spenr 10 minutes fitting it and hey presto no abs/dsc warning lights. I was quoted £750.00 by a jaguar mechanic to fix my car. This forum is great. Thank you again.

Hi im back. bad news. went for a drive in jag today and after about 20 miles the abs/dsc light is back on. the new sensor worked for a few days but could the problem be in the sensor wire circuit?. what seemed to happen is with new sensor fitted the car felt like it was misfiring but I think the abs system was putting on the brakes now and then. Is this possible and if so do I need a new universal joint and reluctor ring or just the cable harness? where does the harness connect into I hear its under rear seats? also are the harnesses compatible from other jags ie X type or s type? as im having trouble locating one in the uk.
codes I had after reading were c1165 in engine control module
c1165, c1235, c1090, c1306, u2522, and c1144 in abs faults

Thank you.

Hi Steve,

Given how many ABS/DSC-related DTCs you have, including codes for both the right and left rear wheel speed sensors, my initial suspicions would lean toward an electrical issue such as looseness, corrosion or contamination of the electrical connector for the Dynamic Stability Control Module (DSCM), which is in the right front corner of the engine bay, or corrosion on the ground points referenced by the DSCM, which are located behind the right-hand headlamp. Cleaning the ground points behind both headlamps is good maintenance on X350s, so that would be worth doing as a starting point. See this link and take care not to snap the ground studs off the body:

Earths / Ground Points Near Headlamps

Here are the definitions and possible causes of your DTCs (I could not find a listing for C1090 in Jaguar or Ford references):

You can download the DTC Summaries guide here:

Jaguar X350 DTC Summaries

The Chassis section of the Workshop Manual contains pinpoint tests for the C-prefix DTCs. You can download that section here:

Jaguar X350 Workshop Manual - Chassis

For the Network (U-prefix) DTC, U2522, the pinpoint tests G239843p1 and G239843p2 are in the Electrical section of the Workshop Manual:

Jaguar X350 Workshop Manual - Electrical

The Electrical Guide is helpful too, and you can download it at the link below. The CAN diagram and explanations toward the end will help you see how a problem with the connections at the DSCM can trigger a DTC that involves the TCM, ASCM and IC.

Jaguar X350 Electrical Guide 2004

Please keep us informed.

Cheers,

Don
