Default Front wheelbearing noisy

Hello guys!

My front wheelbearing is getting a bit more noisy than I like.
As soon as the hollidays are over, I need to get it to a shop and get it done.
I am not in the position to do it myself at this stage, it's simply to cold and I don't have the tool to take the ABS rotor off.

Is this tool common to other cars or only jag? The nearest jag workshop is 1.5 hour drive from here, while the nearest workshop is just around the corner. Can they do this? Wheelbearings are wheelbearings, but the question is that ABS rotor thingie.

Thanks!

Cheers, Jarle

Not a very common tool and quite expensive. Seen them for about US$300.

Wheel bearing were a problem on the early cars. Jaguar increased the size in the '99 MY I believe.

Edit a few minutes later: eBay has one for $150 right now.

The wheelbearing has started squeeking now so it's an unpleasant noise.
Will have to sort as soon as possible after the hollidays. Don't think it can wait two weeks really, the freight does take some time. So will need to get it done ASAP. Got a quote from a Jag dealer at 600$ which doesn't sound too bad. Agree?

Cheers, Jarle

I understand the cold weather, I don't work on my hobby Volvo below 45 degrees F.

If it is squeaking are you sure you want to drive 1.5 hours in January, in Norway, to have it replaced?

I might buy the tool and ask the guy next door to fix it and keep the tool as part payment. Express air shipping shouldn't be $25 or so.

Of course, if it is your DD you don't have much choice.

Jacked the car up, and no, I am not driving this much further than 15 minutes or something. I can feel it grinding and there is considerable slack there. I will try calling one of the workshops up asking if they can lend\rent the tool away, or if I need to buy myself one.

Cheers, Jarle

Default Front wheel bearing

I had my local mechanic remove the hubs and I shipped both to JagTechOhio who pressed in the new ones. Saved buying a tool and saved money. As we all know JagTech is a good...strike that...GREAT guy and was more than happy to throw him the business.

Hello guys!

A Jag workshop close to where I work, will let me bring the hub to them.
I will get a local workshop where I live to take the hub off...

Thanks for the help guys.

Cheers, Jarle

Gus, and you other guys..

Contemplating taking the hub off myself today. What do I need to get this done? I have some standard pullers and quite a bit of tools. Should this be a possible first job for me on the Jag?

What does it involve? I have gotten the JTIS, my guess is that the shock removal should give me the procedure?

Thanks!

Cheers, Jarle

I had one replaced when I got the car. I unfortunately never had the opportunity to change one or work on the frontend to date. However, I know it will be soon!

Wheelbearing was replaced today, spindle was OK.
I was afraid of the spindle, since the bearing was very worn.
All others seemed real tight and fine, brake pads had to be changed though.

So not that expensive, and a happy ending.
