Fuel Injector Connectors XK8 2006
Just finishing the valley hose job.
It has been........... well, educational shall we say.
One of the very last things to do is plug in the connectors for the fuel injectors.
They should click into place with a small plastic tab - but I broke 3 on the first bank and stopped.
I guess this car is nearly 20 years old and the heat has made the plastic brittle.
What is the recommended solution?
It seems like they need to be locked in place to maintain a good connection as the engine vibrates and moves.
There seem to be 4 or 5 replacement parts at Rock Auto - not sure which is the right fit.
Hard to tell if the locking tab is the same shape.
If I have the right part, I can cut the old ones out and splice in new, cover the join with heat shrink.
Has anyone else had this problem/replaced these parts?
Please note, this is a 2006 4.2 li engine, 100K miles.
Many of the fuel system parts are different than the earlier 4.0 models.
This includes these connectors.
I am still hoping it will start and run after this job without leaks, codes, bad connections or vacuum leaks.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Thanks for the wealth of information here.

RJ237, that's a good tip, thanks.
If it holds up for a few years, that will do.
Just one more issue with plastic on these cars.
And a little frustrating at the end of a long job.
But, in the big picture, it's a detail.

You can replace the connector on the wiring loom. Here is a link to the Ford Pigtail book that may have replacements:
