Default Fuel pressure issues (?) need help

This just happened today, thought I'd ask for some guidance here first before pulling everything apart to find the gremlin.
Driving fine today, stopped for a few minutes to take something into my daughter at her work... come back out... car won't start.
(2000 xkr convertible)

The engine is "trying" to start, stuttering, getting some fuel but won't stay running.
While cranking, if I pump the gas pedal, it almost starts. It sounds like it is starving for fuel.

What are the things I should be checking before I go after a fuel pump?

Any codes? I'd certainly check the fuel pressure with a gauge to see if it is low and/or will not hold pressure after turning off the engine. Since you have 2 fuels pumps in the 2000 xkr, then both would need to be out for it to fail completely....

When was the last time the fuel filter was changed?

I would do a quick check to make sure both fuel pumps are working by using the fuel pump jump wire method..

Easy to do, just make a spade jump wire,( with the ignition OFF and key removed)
Remove both fuel pump relay's (in the boot/trunk) push one end of jump wire in to pin 87/5 and touch the battery +live with the other end, you should hear the pump run.
Replace the relay's before you turn the ignition back on.

Sounds exactly like mine except mine will run, just fitted 2 new pumps and filter.
It starts then revs drop, if you pump throttle it will hold about 2500-3000 revs on the throttle but then wont idles and dies.
Thought it may be throttle body and changed that but no luck.
Anybody else have any ideas? It feels like fuel starvation at idle

Thanks Tom, have you tried a fuel pressure gauge on the valve in the engine compartment yet? That is my next step.
I don't have any codes, and I can hear my fuel pumps start up when I turn the key.
