Default Fuel pressure relief

Hi all,

I'm installing a new fuel filter on my US '97 XK8. Can I relieve fuel pressure by removing the fuel pump fuse & relay and run until it stops?

Also any one know the size of the O rings? Part # is XR829166. Hate to pay $5.00 each at the dealer if there is a comparable substitute.

Thanks,
Marty

There is a schrader valve on the fuel injection rail. Depress it with a small tool and have a rag ready to absorb the fuel.

It is probably not a good idea to use a hardware store o-ring...it may not hold up to the gasoline exposure.

Thought I might be able to get them at an auto parts store.

I picked up a kit from Harbor Freight, contains various sizes of Viton o-rings. I've replaced all of the-orings in the air lines, dip stick, PCV, MAP sensor and valve cover breather connectors/fittings. They've held up well. Whether or not the kit has the correct size for your shrader valve, I'm not sure.

Trade Names: Viton®, Fluorel®, Technoflon®, Dai-El®.

General Description:
FKM compounds are widely used in chemical, automotive, aerospace and industrial applications. These compounds offer excellent chemical and temperature resistance. There are many additional specialty compounds based on A, B, F, GLT, GFLT, LTFE and ETP polymer types.

Features:
  • High temperature resistance.
  • Excellent resistance to acids, fuels, mineral and vegetable oils and greases, aliphatic, aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons, non-flammable hydraulic fluids (HFD) and many organic solvents and chemicals. Low swelling in ASTM oil No. 1, and IRM 902 and IRM 903.
  • Excellent resistance to aging and ozone.
  • Low gas permeability, low compression set.
Limitations:
· Steam, hot water, amines, polar solvents, low molecular weight organic solvents and glycol-based brake fluids. Ammonia gas, low molecular organic acids (formic and acetic acids).

Service Temperature
:

· 2o to 400o F (-16o to 204o C). General compounds
· -67o to 432o F (-55o to 222o C). Specialty compounds
