What's the fuel pump part number so we can avoid this in future
The pump I bought on Rock Auto was the only one listed, I believe CARTER P76628M.
I think it is going to be okay now that we sorted out the wiring mix up. That said it is definitely not the same quality as a Jaguar OEM pump. At least the float rheostat is not the same quality. Both the OEM and replacement pump have + and - connections. Regardless of any pump you buy just compare your old pump to make sure the correct pins were used at the connector to the vapor recovery plate.
Had this not been a diy job it would have been a very costly diagnosis at a shop.

I'm not sure if you could just changed the pump itself however in my experience anything after denso Hitachi and Bosch fuel pump is just in same range of quality don't be afraid of eBay quality you can get complete pump for 60$

The old pump does look like it could be removed but I haven't looked closely enough yet. Of course there is also the little sock filter at the base of the pump in the bottom of the housing too so if you could get that too it would be a plus.
I am going to try and take my OEM pump apart to see as soon as I button up the rest of the car. After I got it running this past weekend I had to park it again for a few days. My wife and I got away for a few days on a planned trip for our anniversary. We picked three gorgeous days here in New England, getting home tonight and I am refreshed and ready to take the car on a test drive tomorrow. Hopefully I will report nothing but good news. Last night on the shore in CT. Makes car troubles go away for a bit!

Such Beautiful place Carter not that bad I believe it will last long time however try to replace the old pump with denso or Hitachi just in case good luck
A top rest plate and two 10-32 nutserts. 3/4 aluminum flatstock fits in the recess so it is pretty much flush. I put a little two-sided tape on the rest plate to keep it from rattling before I screwed the plate down. I'm probably not going to worry about the gap since the deck is fully vented above it anyway. Now to put all the carpeting, panels, and seats in!
