Fuel sender guage replacement
Hi all, my 2001 xkr coupe has I believe a sticky float on the fuel sender guage. Is this a big job to replace or is it a diy task? If so how do I go about access it . Thanks for your help.
Its in the fuel tank with the two fuel pumps, can be done DIY but you need to remove the tank or go in through the top,
Lots of threads on replacing the fuel pumps (replacing the fuel sender is going to be roughly the same)
The fuel sender is on the left side of the tank and uses the same in tank link lead as the fuel pump on that side.
If not already been done, it maybe a good time to replace both fuel pumps at the same time..
On the other hand it could just be a bad connection.

FUEL SENDER AND LINK LEAD
FUEL SENDER
THAT IS THE FUEL SENDER NEXT TO THE FUEL PUMP ON THE RIGHT (photo taken through the subwoofer hole from the back seat facing towards the boot/trunk.
If you do have to replace the in tank fuel sender it can be done through the subwoofer hole,
Some have done this to replace the pumps, myself included.
I did it by removing things and pulling the tank 2" forward, Others have reported that it can be done by leaving the tank as it is (next time thats what i will do/try)
The part number for the fuel sender is LJE2001AC/AB/AA.
Good luck and keep us posted.....
I had the same issue on my 2001 XKR convertible last year - I too didn't want to go to the trouble of changing it, so left it. In the meantime I added a can of BG 44 K to the fuel, which helped make the engine idle more smoothly. Without doing anything else my fuel gauge now works - which makes me wonder if the BG44K managed to clean the sender by sitting in a bath of treated petrol.
It can't hurt to try.

Many thanks to the both of you. Another couple of weeks and I will be laying her up for the winter. I will also have a bit more time than I have since I bought her a couple of months ago and will begin my preventative maintenance in earnest. Thanks lads.
