Depends.

To my knowledge, there are 3 different technologies. The earliest (fixed code, '90s?) can be worked with even the oldest XK8/R. The next tech (rolling codes?) can only be worked with the later (second generation) car openers, but a retrofit exists for the earlier car. The latest tech cannot be worked directly, and a "bridge" has to be added to an outlet in your garage.

You have to provide the specifics about your car and the garage opener.
