GAUGES do not work, TURN SIGNAL INDICATORS, and high beam headlight indicator on all
Hello, I have a problem with my 2000 XKR, 130,000 miles. The turn signal indicators and the high beam headlight indicator are "stuck" on. Any time the battery is connected they are on. When starting the car the system check sequence does not work, nor does the digital display where the odometer and diagnostic messages appear.
The car starts and idles well. The transmission is locked in park, I cannot move it while the car is running. I did learn from a thread on here how to use my ignition key to evidently bypass the shift lever lock switch. The gauges don't seem to be working.
I have tried disconnecting the battery overnight and reconnecting, the same problem persists.
The battery is kept on a trickle charger and it seems to be a full power. The engine cranks readily and starts as usual.
I have had an ongoing issue with the tail light bulbs needing to be wiggled to keep them working. I don't expect that this is related but I just don't know.
Finally upon reading some old threads on here I am leaning toward thinking that the problem is a malfunctioning gauge cluster.
I would appreciate your thoughts on any, or all of this. Thanks, Jim

Hi
Take a look at this and compare your VIN range http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/...%20failure.pdf

Thank you. If I am reading this correctly we are looking at the last 6 digits of the serial number. My serial number is A09***, the recall ends with A05322, so I am not within this range.
Send your gauge cluster off for the Gauge Cluster Service Repair. I had answered you on my cluster repair page with details for having the service work done, only $120.00.
Make sure ALL your light bulbs "brake lights, reverse lights, side marker lights, etc." on the car and headlights are good and working . That you can turn high beams from high to low and its not a headlight issue causing the gauge cluster light to stay on. I had issues long ago with one aftermarket brake light bulb. It had fit the socket just fine but for what ever reason the car did not like it and wood give me a brake warning light indicator on the instrument gauge cluster from time to time... I would open the trunk and wiggle the damn bulb and it would come come. I ended up buying some electrical circuit cleaner spray and new bulbs, and never had a issue again with them. The cars in mint shape, zero rust. The bulb sockets looked great but I sprayed cleaner on it regardless for peace of mind. I want to say even if the bulb fits it still may be wrong for the car and give you issues down the line? We have a Toyota and it had done that. If i remember right.... Been a while now. Good luck. The cluster repair still works great to this day. Best $120.00 ever spent on our Jaguar!

Problem resolved. After reading several posts on this forum it seemed a malfunction in the instrument cluster was the likely cause for my problem. I checked obvious connections and for evidence of damage from mice in the wiring I could access before making my final decision. Instead of spending many hours, or hundreds of dollars, to troubleshoot the many electronic components that could contribute to this I decided to take a chance and have the cluster rebuilt. I had no luck finding a place that would give me clear answers ,or a good price range, so I did not send it for repairs. I eventually located someone who had a used cluster to match mine. I bought it for less than $100 and it works perfectly. Thanks everyone for the help along the way.
