Gearbox Fault Warning question, re: vibration as cause...
I've gotten a Gearbox Fault warning, just randomly, a few times over the past month and it seems to come after hitting a bump or by getting some other vibration. I can immediately clear it by shutting the car off, then on, so it's more of a nuisance than a major problem, but it is bothersome nonetheless. On fault, the car will come out of overdrive and/or lock itself into a lower gear with poor responsiveness.
A pothole at 5 mph set it off today. Last week, because I have a tire somewhat out of balance and have a vibration between 50-60 mph, simply driving down a smooth interstate set it off.
It's a 1998 coupe with around 85k on the clock. I just bought a code checker (finally) but haven't checked the car; was mainly wanting to see if someone else has had a similar problem and could tell me the cost/difficulty I should expect in fixing it.
