Default Gearbox Problems with P0702 P1748 and delayed engagement.

Oh strange things going on here and wondering if it could be dueto something simple like the gearbox fluid level? Which Im unable to check(XKR100)

The original problem was a harsh jolt selecting gears, with “gearboxfault” showing and when driving wouldn't change gear.

I also had a fault code P1748which I believe is Pressure Regulator5 (located high up in the gearbox? Sofluid might not be reaching it?)

Due to my battery not being in good condition and advice on here,I changed it for a new one, but I still have the same problem, and differentsymptoms.

Yesterday I tried the car and got the usual jolt but also P1748and P0702 Code.

So last night I cleared all codes, disconnected battery and chargedfully.

This morning I started it up from cold and got “Gearbox Fault”

I put it into reverse and got another message “High Gearbox Temperature”

How can I have high gearbox temperature when the car has only beenrunning for 10 seconds and stone cold?

But I also didn’t get the usual jolt when selecting gear.

I went for a very short drive down the road and back to see if thesymptoms had changed. But now the jolt has gone when selecting gears and insteadtakes about 2 – 3 seconds to engage gear, either drive or reverse.

I still have the error codes P1748 and P0702 Codes.

Could all these errors/issues be due to low transmission fluid?

The reason I am unable to check the gearbox fluid level is becausethe car never had one. Just has a cover over the dipstick hole which says “WORKSHOPONLY”.

I believe this is the Mercedes Gearbox which is a sealed for lifeone. Bloody stupid design if you ask me, especially not being able to check theoil level.

No idea what dipstick I would need either.

Thanks in advance,

Lawrence

Update: I tried the car yesterday and it decided to change up and down gears, but still displaying "Gearbox Fault"

I tried again today, it refused to changed gear and I got "restricted performance" with a P1643 Code.

Does anyone have any ideas what this could be related too?

Cheers

This may be of no help whatsoever but ................ I have a Mercedes ML - not the same gearbox by any means, but exactly the same "lack of dipstick" arrangement. The red tab can be broken off to remove the cap, and you can then insert a dipstick like this :
Mercedes Transmission Gearbox Dipstick Tool 722.6 722.7 722.8 PROFESSIONAL TOOL | eBay

and (depending on whether hot or cold) get a fairly accurate indication of fluid level. Theoretically, you should replace the cap with a new one, but that's not essential I suspect.
Cheers,
David.
