It is a good question.

Staying with Jaguar: an XJ (considering adding one as a stablemate already)

Non Jag: Porsche Boxster or Audi A6 (Boxster is a fine driving open car. I have had an A6 and it was a very nice car to own and drive.)

Late 90s early 2000 convertible corvette. It's what I was looking for when my wife found the the 03 XK8 convertible.

Probably a Mercedes SL600. Maybe a Masarati or a 1960s Buick convertible.

I'd probably be driving a mini cooper or a car like the mazda 3.

I would still have my 93 XJS 6 cylinder 5 speed coupe. Upgraded suspension and 16 inch wheels. Although not as fast as the XK8, it was much more involving in an old Brit car sort of way. Sometimes I do miss it.

Well if you are taking about something in the same price range, how about a nice 450SL

I was looking at an '04-'06 Pontiac GTO for a bit, so probably one of those.

When I was younger and dumber I thought a Crossfire (Chrysler/Merc mixture) was all I could afford in tax hungry NL; Turned out I would not fit in by almost a foot... Thank God for my tall body, because only then it turned out I could afford a beautiful convertible aswell!

Might have got a "Busa to keep the Commando company, instead of another Jag to keep the A4 company...good question though....who knows what might have come along??? Studebaker Silver Hawk ..... '66 Toronado......
Anyhow, happy as hell with the XK8.
Cheers

I took one as a hire car when I was in Honalulu, the internal finish was very poor, but I did fit, 6 feet 1 1/2 inches.

Currently have a 2008 Crossfire coupe. Great car with an interesting pedigree. Has been rock solid and is fairly quick. The styling is not everyone's taste but I think its beautiful and I've never had a car receive more positive comments than the Crossfire. BUT...if the XK8 did not exist I would end up with a 2006 SL500 like what I was looking for before I found the XK8.

Interesting replies and not what i was expecting - A Crossfire? - man that's an ugly car IMO.
The classic SL i understand, something boring - i don't understand.
American guys - a lot of you have an American car as a second choice after an XK8.
Dipping into a 60's classic seems rife with problems over good looks outside.
My choices (if u r interested) were a Porsche 928, An Audi S8, A Lexus SC (just because i know how well they make their cars - tho' it's not a looker), poss a Merc SL500/600 and to end a Citroen DS

Our XK8 is my wife's car. At 6-feet-7 with very broad shoulders and size 15 feet, there's just no way for me to stay comfortable in it for long. After an hour behind the wheel my knees, neck, and lower back are all screaming at me to get the hell out and stretch....

I love my 1999 Dodge Ram 5.9-litre V8 pickup. I've had it since December 2000 and hope to keep it until gas crosses the five-bucks-a-gallon barrier and finally forces me out of it (I'm lucky to average 14 mpg in it). Plenty of legroom and headroom so I can drive it all day long with no issues....

I was on one of those Specialty used car lots looking at a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang. When my wife spotted an XK8 on the lot. She said "why don't we get one of those, but blue!"
I asked the price, and I was floored, that car, for What? The rest is history.

@ LondonXK8Boy... I already stated it was not a vehicle that suited everyone's taste. No need for you to be a jerk

On another note, interesting seeing everyone's other choices. Id take any of them.
