The tabs on a couple of the wheel center caps (2.25-inch diameter caps with a silver growler on a black background) on my wife's XK8 are starting to get a bit weak, so the affected caps do not stay in place as tightly as they should. I took them off earlier in the week for closer examination. I could see slight cracks in the plastic at the base of a couple of the tabs (I'll pause here to rant yet again about the lousy plastics used in these cars)....

So I cleaned the area with a damp paper towel, whipped up a batch of epoxy, and spread it liberally around the base of each tab that displayed any evidence of cracking. Let the epoxy dry overnight and popped the caps back onto the wheels the next morning. A relatively tighter fit now, but I know that plastic will continue to deteriorate as the road vibration eventually takes its toll....

Decided to be proactive so I did a bit of online searching and found a set of four new matching replacement caps for about $19 from Welsh Enterprises in Ohio (800-875-5247). Placed an order and they arrived via USPS mail two days later. Exact match, brand new, and probably less than one-fourth the cost that a dealership would charge. I'll hold onto 'em until the current glued tabs finally give way....
