Got CD changer working again, some thoughts
CD changer stopped working, wouldn't load CD's. 2000 xk8 Coupe, trunk changer.
I followed this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-needed-74603/
And now it loads and plays again.
However, based on my couple (or more) of decades of mechanical repair experience, I'm skeptical just the added lubrication was what made it work. I didn't feel any friction in any of the surfaces or gears I could move. Nothing seemed stuck or amiss. Just didn't seem what the problem was.
One thought I had was one of the electrical connectors stopped connecting well. That might seem far fetched, but my previous car had electrically assisted steering and I got in it one day, no power steering. I unplugged and cleaned the connectors, and it worked again. Sitting in the damp may be a contributor?
Here's what I think someone might try: if the changer won't load a CD, try just unplugging and replugging all the connectors before removing the unit. You'll have to undo the four 7mm hex bolts to get the back connectors but it's less work than taking the unit and cover off, and work you'd have to do anyway.
