I believe the antenna is under the parcel shelf behind the rear seats, however if your sat nav isn't working and you want a built in sat nav, just replace it with a Garmin Drivesmart 55. It's a pretty good match for the original screen and of course is completely up to date.

Hi,

Thank you very much for your answers.
the plan is to remove the antenna (if easily done) and place the new GPS antenna in the same spot.

I don't really see the value of this sat nav so I am fitting a new head unit which comes with its own antenna.

Easy is relative, in a coupe the antenna is under the parcel shelf right hand side near the bottom of the glass. You have to take a fair bit of the rear interior out to get to it, so more time than complicated.

As I have come to realise.... Removing the parcel shelf is a big job....
I guess I have to find an other spot to fit the new GPS antenna....

Why not fit it in the dash where the original sat nav was? I didn't even realise external GPS antennas was still a thing.

That's what I ended up doing...
thing is the head unit came with a GPS antenna and a long enough cable so I thought to myself it would be nice to replace the current antenna with the new one.

But at the end of the day I never had any issue getting GPS signal inside a car so now there is an antenna inside the dashboard....

(I might write an article later to show the end result)

I'd certainly be interested to see what you've done. What model of sat nav is it?

I have been browsing for quite sometimes... trying to figure out a way to utilise the satnav space and upgrade the standard head unit to bring 21st century goodness in the form of Waze, Spotify, Bluetooth, Reverse camera, OBD2...

I have eventually narrowed it down to JoyingAuto Android 10.0 Autoradio Widescreen 8.8 Inch Single 1Din 4G
Android 10.0 Autoradio Widescreen Single 1Din 4G Head Unit (joyingauto.eu)

it is still a work in progress I am looking at integrating it with minimal (if any) butchering just in case I feel nostalgic and want to refit the old setup.

Turns out someone done something similar a few years ago:

I have thought that the GPS antenna is at the top of the rear screen, just above the heater elements.. There is a metal button connector there that leads under the headliner.

That Joying looks like an interesting head unit and could be made to look very OEM. I'm still quite happy with the Garmin for sat nav, especially as it shows up to date speed limits and speed camera sites, but you can't control the audio with it. For music streaming my phone connects via bluetooth in place of the CD player, but having a touch screen on the dashboard to control it would be a huge bonus. Please keep us updated with your install.
