Default Funny - Re Antenna

I posted a few months back I was having issues with my antenna on my XKR. There was a chattering noise when it retracted that was annoying. I had it at the dealer for another item and asked them to take a look. They told me I had to replace the whole thing for a price tag of $700. I did some investigation here and figured out that it was probably the teeth of the component that guides the antenna up and down and decided to order a replacement antenna for $16 bucks, installed it myself problem fixed. The funny and question is do most suckers just pay the 700 bucks? seems pretty shitty to me that they did nto properly TS the problem.

I'm not sure if you have seen this or not: Disconnecting the power antenna - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum

It discusses a switch that lets you have more control over when the antenna is up. When on, the antenna operates as factory, when off, the antenna stays down. It's very useful for powerful stations, or when listening to CDs.

I installed the switch ( pretty straight fwd ) and use the antenna occasionally. I have to wonder when they designed the car..... and sat back and admired the good design. Did they put the antenna up !!!!!! and say that that looks great and the proportions are lovely (haha) God it does look like a radio controlled car. Man they must of said " hey we have deal on these 80 foot antennas so lets use them !!!"

Rev Sam has a video where he shows how to eliminate the antenna by replacing with a "hidden" model from RadioShack>

I have never been a big objector to antennas on cars. To me they are not all that noticeable and really no big deal. Also, early cars I had where they began omitting the normal antenna for non-visible ones always had worse reception.

I guess all things being equal I would prefer a hidden antenna, but having the old style retractable one is not that big a deal to me.

^ yup. That's the way to go. I rarely listen to the radio... mostly just CDs. It's simple and you have control over the antenna, which is perfect, IMO.

I replaced my antenna this weekend with I mast I bought on line. It was easy to do and the posts were helpful. I think it is really cool to have that retro look seeing the antenna rise up when I turn on the radio
