Default GPS/Map light dims when lights are on

Does anyone know why the back light dims for the GPS unit when I turn the lights on? The other dashboard lights and gauges I can see fine with the lights on during the day but with them on I can not see the GPS unit. If the lights are off I can see the unit fine. I like to drive with my lights on during the day so this is kind of annoying.
Thanks.

Look on the left of your steering column. The small knob closest to the dash is the dimmer control. If you turn the dimmer control all the way counter-clockwise until it clicks, you have set the dimmer override on....now the GPS will be full brigthness with the headlights on.

I had the reverse problem; my switch was in the override position and the nav. system was blinding me. I dialed it back and prefer it that way, but I'm glad to know I can boost it as needed.

Default Thanks to WhiteXKR

That was just what I needed. Now, I don't have to turn off the headlights when I want to look at the navigator screen.

Next, I will have to deal with the beginning of the "green shower" which just showed up with a few drops this afternoon.

Don't wait on the green shower. You can turn off the pressure at the pump. It stopped my shower until I got the parts to fix it.

Hi whiteXKR.

I knew about the dimmer switch, but not the override function. I don't have a GPS, but now I can see the setting of the other switches like the air conditioning in daylight with the headlights on, which is mandatory in this overregulated country.
Btw, my remote top and instrument mod are working flawlessly.
