Exclamation Gremlins on the dash intrument cluster

Hello again Jag lovers my instruments dash lights are staying on after I turn off the ignition. the center console light go out normally. I am having to remove the lower 5 amp fuse so that they can be off overnight in the garage. without the fuse in place the engine starts but dash light stay off and get no system check and cannot disingage park. Any ideas???? am also getting an other thing that has been bothering me. I get the air bag icon flashing every now and than on the driver instrument cluster seem to be getting 5 flashes followed by 2 flashes by the air bag ico does that make any sense???

Thanks

I am a novice to the electrical repairs of these cars but If I had to guess I would think that a relay is stuck closed that controls the dash lamps.

Have you looked in the owners manual for relays and does one control the dash lamps?

I think its the dimmer module because when the instrument light are on the dimmer function does not work on the instrument cluster just on the center console lights. does anyone know how to cjeck this module and where it is located. Thanks

As I understand from this and your other thread that the instrument cluster lights remain on even when the dimmer module is unplugged and the ignition is off and the key is removed.

Is this correct?

The 5 + 2 flashes you're getting on the airbag warning light is Blink Code 52. Blink Codes help you troubleshoot SRS (Supplementary Restraint System) faults.

This code indicates an issue with the passenger seat belt buckle. It could be a broken wire or a short to ground but the commonest cause is a dirty 'Hall Effect' sensor in the buckle.

Be very careful when cleaning or removing the buckle. As another member found recently, the wires to the main harness connector are easily broken and the buckle is frighteningly expensive.

With the ignition off, unplug the dimmer module again. With a voltmeter, check to see if there is 12 volts on positions 1 and 2 (red/blue wires) of the dimmer module connector while it is unplugged.

Sorry, I may not have been very clear in what I requested. I wanted you to check pin 1 to ground and pin 2 to ground for 12 volts, not between pins 1 and 2. I am not sure if that is what you did.

Its ok that is what i did both pins to ground with no current. the ignition was off and the plug removed from the dimmer module. The problem, the dashboard light, was on.

Thanks for your interest in my problem
