Default Has anyone ever taken a mechanics class for non mechanics?

I thought it would be fun to take, I have checked the local community colleges and technical institutes and have not found anything that would interest me. I get my info of Youtube, but some hands on would be cool.

3 years ago I never went under the hood, now I am doing more and more our 3 cars (Jag requires the most.......)

I used to teach such a class many many years ago when cars had carburetors and points and coils, like God and Joseph Lucas intended. Not sure what DIY is still available to beginners given the advanced technology of today's cars.

Agreed. I think your best bet is to continue to do what you're doing. Reading the forums, posting questions on them, watching related youtube videos, etc. It's a slow and steady process, just like anything else that requires an accumulation of knowledge and experience. One advantage that can greatly help you is to find a friend/neighbor who has worked on vehicles since they were a teenager and has built a home shop. Spend some time with him, offer to assist on his upcoming repairs or projects, ask him to show you around his shop. You'll quickly add to your knowledge and skills and enjoy the camaraderie at the same time....

Good advice as given above

I would assume that there may be some basic mechanic courses around, but you're probably beyond that by now I would guess

I did a few hours of mig welding at a local college which gave me the confidence to hack into the XK8 rear wing.
