Post Header Panel Removal Above Convertible Latch

Attempting to remove Header Panel atop convertible windshield to inspect hydraulic hoses and latch assembly. Removed two screws and two plastic push pins at top of A pillar; however header panel WILL NOT come off easily. Do not want to use too much force for fear of bending panel. Just installed pressure relief valve in trunk and want to inspect hoses and latch. Any special secrets? 2001 XKR

That is because there are actually 4 screws. There are two more screws hidden at the very ends of the header, beyond the push pins. They are actually under the weatherstripping, and there is probably a little excess adhesive over them also. The ends of the weatherstrip have to be very gently peeled back to see them. On an older vehicle you might tear the weatherstrip slightly doing this, just be as gentle as possible. A small slit can be repaired with a dab of weatherstrip adhesive.

BTW, by removing the outside top header, FYI, you will just have a narrow window to view the hoses. If you want full access, the fabric header inside the car must be removed.

Thanks so MUCH, White XKR! Sure 'nuff - found the two additional screws hiding under the weatherstripping and covered with adhesive. I just had a feeling that something was keeping the header panel from coming off, but just couldn't locate the two additional screws.

Excellent, glad you found those two hidden devils. How did your hoses look?

Default Hose Condition Response

The black sheathing has some deterioration (appears to be age cracks, possibly heat); however, the white webbing around the hose appears OK. Lithium on latch. Since I just installed the pressure relief valve as a preventative measure, I would rather not tackle the replacement hose process, even though the hoses are Nylaflow hoses. (Penny wise, pound foolish?). By the way, those two extra screws under the weatherstripping are sure fun to put back - #*%*@!

Never any fun dealing with the lousy screws. With the install of the pressure regulator the life of the system in general should be extended but you never know. You did the right thing and I wish you Luck!
