Restricted performance question

I'm new to this forum. I just recently purchased a 1999 XK8 with 44K miles. I'm having an issue with the restricted performance. The car runs fine for the first 25-30 minutes and then the code comes on. If the car sits overnight the code is off until I drive 25-30 miles again. The code reads #2 cylinder misfire. there was once where it read #4 misfire but no #2. It has pretty much been coding #2 lately. The first 25-30 miles it rins fine. I was wondering if the ECU is bad? any suggestions.

misfires are usually straight forward, either a bad plug, coil or connector/wire. Look at the 'sticky' thread in this subsection titled FAQ and DIY repairs to determine which is your trouble cylinder and start swapping coils first...follow the moving code to diagnose the bad coil, or if it doesn't move, then its the plug or wire. Plug first (do them all, don't be stingy) and then see if it clears up.
Make sure there is no oil in the plug wells or covering the plug upon removal, if it is...valve cover gasket is leaking and you'll only temporarily solve this issue with new parts. Get the gasket replaced during the project. enjoy!

Thank you so....much. I had changed the plugs when I first got the car and noticed the oil, but just cleaned it up. I have been smelling oil when I run it now so I guess it's the gaskets. How much of a job it is? Thanks again
