Help 2: parking sensors only work 1/3 of the time
My rear parking sensors only seem to function every third time I reverse. I reverse up to a nice clean plaster wall in my garage, but I don't get the beeper every time. It's annoying because I can never rely on the system for guidance now.
Any ideas for a quick fix?
Thanks.

The reverse parking aid has a self test feature of sorts. If it detects a failure in the sensors, its communication or itself, it sounds a 6-8 second continuous tone the first time reverse is selected after the ignition is turned on.
If your car is NOT doing that, then I would suspect it might not be sensing your shift to reverse reliably. Since the signal it uses to sense reverse is the same wire that drives the back-up lights, the next thing I would check is to see if your backup lights are working every time.

I have third party parking sensors fitted, so not sure if the same applies to yours, however I had problems with mine and apparently you can reset them.
The procedure for mine was to switch on the ignition and then go in and out of reverse 5 times. I tried this and mine have worked fine since.

Thank you for the great advise to listen for the ultrasonic pulses.
I have found that the center sensor on the drivers side is not making any sound, and the other once are making the pulsing noise.
I tried to get the sensor out by pushing it out from inside the bumper, and it comes out about an inch and not any further. How do I remove that sensor from the bumper so I can replace it?
Do I have to get the new sensor painted? Does anyone have a part number for it?
Any help greatly apprecaited.
Thank you
Mike

I have a problem with my parking sensord too, i have a jag, s-type 4.0, and everytime you put it on reverse it makes a beep around 4 or 5 seconds...after a lil bit of research i found that that beep indicates a mailfuncion status of the system, but i ve found in the trunk two big plugs, unplugged and i was wondering if someone knows where is the parking aid system console, to see if these plugs belong there.... Any ideas??
By the way appologies for my bad english, and thanks in advance!

I pulled the speaker and fiddled with it. It was definitely louder when I plugged it back in but was still too soft. Can I swap out another speaker? Where is the amp located?
