Default Help! Code 1638?

Hi, My 2006 XK8 just threw a code 1638. I don't know what this means. Also, the convertible top front windows won't go down when the the top is lowered. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

P1638 is a CAN failure (computer area network). That combined with the window problem makes me suspect the battery is failing, or just needs charging.

Thanks for the info. I too think it's a battery issue. The code went away after I hooked up the battery tender. The windows still won't cooperate but I'll know more tomorrow when the battery is fully charged. The battery is new. I just had it installed a few days ago and think I was given a bad one. Tomorrow I'll know if the windows work. If they do then I'll get another battery that works!

Thanks again and thanks to everyone on this forum. You guys are a lot of help!!

Have you done a window reset? Lower and hold until you hear a click, then raise and hold.

My front windows have never lowered automatically when I lower the convertible top. They do drop an inch or so but do not lower completely.

If they are able to lower completely I would like to know how to enable that option.

Looks like the engine light and code went away after I drove the car. Must be a battery issue. I've never owned a car that was so sensitive to voltage spikes. This car is a beauty and yes, like many have stated before, the car is like a super model. One that requires a lot of attention......and gets a lot of attention when out in public.

Thanks again to this forum. If it didn't exist I'd have lost even more hair on my head!
