Default HELP: Need a front and rear wheel for '97 XK8 - RESOLVED

Fellow XK8 lovers, I ran over a concrete block the size of a shoebox at highway speed and broke both the leftside front and rear wheels.

Front: Flute 8J x 18CH x 33
Rear: Flute 9J x 18CH x 35

These wheels are no longer available from Jaguar, and I'm seeking your help to secure one of each from your local yard to get going again, rather than dishing out big bucks for a whole set of four. Thanks in advance.

No kidding ouch. If the wheels are the only casualties I'd say that's a lucky day.

If you come up short on your wheel hunt, I have a set of 4 hydra wheels I will make a very good deal on.

Cool Replacement wheels located

I'm indeed very very lucky. The Nissan GT-R who travelled the same stretch of highway about 2 minutes before me ran over the rock with his sump, wading in a hugh pool of motor oil.

Initially I thought the tyres were the only damage. It was the next morning when the tyre store owner called to tell me I needed two new wheels in addition to the tyres.

I'm almost done with sourcing the replacement wheels thanks to members of this forum, and should be back on the road very shortly.

Isn't that the ALY59690 & ALY59691, Painted wheels? Wheel listing show front and rear as different widths. 8.0" X 18" and 9.0" X 18". Jag wheels seem to be priced "mild to wild". Good Luck

Ouch, Bet you felt that but I would think a bfh should bend those back just fine. Well maybe not.

Check out Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market you should be able to search based on the pic of the rim of about 1/2 of the junkyards in the states!

My search for a pair of replacement wheels for my XK8 introduced me to the terms "Hollander Parts Catalogue" and "Hollander Part Number".

The specific original Jaguar wheels I'm looking for bear Hollander part numbers 59690 & 59691. I bought them refurbished from Aftermarket Car & Truck Replacement Parts | Get All Parts at very reasonable price. I'm really impressed by the existance of the very informative "Hollander Parts Catalogue" which can save you big bucks by sourcing from alternative parts suppliers rather than from official Jaguar/dealers for parts which the XK8 uses in common with other car makes and models.

Go to car-part.com, with the wheel numbers. You have many yards giving you their wheel prices, or any part prices. I use them almost exclusively. I just bought a whole ABS unit with traction control, including the module for $65, and it is warrantied for 90 days. It's worth a try. I also bought a transmission with 41,000 miles on it for $750. They even rate the cosmetic condition of the item.....Take care, and good luck....Mike

I have been looking for a set of replacement wheels for my car. I have the chrome Apollo wheels at the moment, and I am not a fan of chrome on this car. The Hydras are on my short list. Let me know if they are available, condition, finish, etc. Thanks.

Default Back on the road again...

To update Jaguarforum members, I'm glad to report that my '97 XK8 is running again on Sept 17, having been side-lined for 17 days since the mishap on Sept 1. I ended up having to replace both the front and rear fluted wheels as well as the tires. I'm pleased to report that nothing else on the XK8 has been damaged by this amazing saga.

I'm now getting organized to file a complaint & a compensation claim with the Hong Kong Government Highways Dept for the damages sustained by my XK8 due to their gross negligence on highway maintenance. Bear with me and wish me luck for the outcome of my claim, and I promise to keep you all posted.

Cheers!

Glad for the (mostly) positive outcome and that your car is back on the road.

And good luck with your claim. Here in the US I think such a claim would be unwinnable, lets hope the Hong Kong bureaucracy is more citizen friendly.

Thank you for your response.

I've got my polished & refurbished wheels at getallparts.com for a very reasonable price, and my Jag's been back on the road since Sept 17, 2015.
