need more details. Get any check engine light, if so did you get the codes?
What year is the car? Is it turning over when you turn the key or nothing at all?

99 xk8. Ignition switch will turn to first position only. When I open door window goes down as usual in conv but never goes up when I close door. Is now all way down. Interior lights come on and when I insert key steering wheel goes to my position. Ignition will not turn to acc or on position and shifter will not come out of park

Try this: My wife had the same problem. Grasp the steering wheel firmly and while turning the key gently move steering wheel left and right. She had parked and pressure was against the lock mechanism from the steering wheel.
If you haven't had any other problems this might be it.

I have had this happen in other cars I have owned. I would agree in trying this.

I've had this problem in other vehicles and knew about it but did not think of that on the Jag. As always I over complicated it
