Ignition coil replacement
I have determined that my 1999 xj8 needs one new ignition coil. I cannot find a vender that will sell me one Denso #mb099700-02 60. XW93-12029-ab, 4pin.
My question is, can I replace one coil with another manufacture? And which one would be recommended.

Ray Robinson

Your Jaguar was built during the "Ford Years", and there is some interchange with Ford parts. Suggest you remove the offending coil and take it to a NAPA or Ford dealership to determine if a Ford part will interchange. The overall shape may be identical, but sometimes Jaguar uses a unique connector.
I recently purchased some from ebay for about $30.00 each with free shipping. Also, Autozone has a 4 pin Denso make for about $130.00 each. I think they are easy enough to replace so if anything goes wrong with the cheap $30.00 ones, I am not too worried.
As far as a Ford interchange part, I didn't not find any that had the same shape as the Jaguar ones. Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln LS with the 3.9l share some parts, however not coils. Sad to say I think you're stuck without a Ford interchange part.

The Lincoln LS and my X300 would eat through eBay cheap ones pretty quick. On the LS I bought BWD at Advance Auto for $50 a piece with lifetime warranty, on the x300 I went to the local pull a part and grabbed 3 Sets of stock ones for $9 each. I'll never go the cheap route again on COPs.
