Help please...has anyone successfully welded their diff on a daily driven xkr??
So as i'm coming to believe...it has not been done. I have searched and searched (probably incorrectly) but have found nothing definitive as an answer???
Question is::: Can i weld the diff on my XKR and not throw it into limp etc.
***moderators*** very sorry in advance if it has been discussed to death ... kindly point me in the right direction... BTW i'm halfway through my full timing replacement and upper/lower sc pulleys upgrade; thank you all on this forum for all the great videos and write up's!!!
OK all, thanks anyway. I will keep exhausting the search bar and reading the umpteenth threads on daydreams and regurgitated diatribe.. i have spent hours to no avail... PLEASE hopefully somebody with independent thought process, help?? So how come I see many brilliant minded posts on every subject but not one about someone actually pulling it off?? Can i actually be the only one willing to shred tires at all times,, Hello M'cFly.....weekend drift at the local lot??? God i hope it is my computer ignorance keeping me from locating at least one thread on someone whom has their diff welded? But if i am going to be the guinea pig than good bad or indifferent, once done than ill give you all a (probably terrible) write up as soon as i get mine completed. Worst case is new (rear) pumpkin if mine grenades under load or possibly a new tcm (matching vcats) if it does go into reduced power//limp and i screw up a re-flash... but in my opinion either way its a project car and if it pans out then so worth the fun!!!!

I don't know the answer here, but interesting tactic, appearing to cast aspersions on the entire group of people who might help after graciously waiting an hour near midnight on the east coast of the US and near 5 am in the UK and 6 am on the continent. Probably not peak answering time...
Good luck with the welder, there appears to always be interest around here in new explorations.
Probably came across as disconcerting i apologize to the forum and you directly i meant no disrespect. I just naturally assumed i was not the only person enjoying the forum at this hour... I BOW IN SHAME lol & sorry everyone who sees this, patients was never my virtue. I digress and good night Ill poke around in the morning when the rest of the world might be awake and more willing to peruse my rhetoric.. TY crbass ... much respect sir-
I am sure the ECU will not go into limp mode, that will not be a problem.
Concern I would think of would be the diff (pinion/crown). as that will be stressed more obviously and is a known weak point, you could consider giving these a shot peen treatment to strengthen it.
The stresses will depend on the width of the tires and stickiness, I guess you will have to find out yourself, as I don;t know anyone here who has done this.
I appreciate the input.. Well suppose we will see as I'm certain now that I'm going to go through with it... and the wheels are two piece 20"x12" deep as ***** Fitment is everything I know as the fenders and quarters are getting 3.5 front and 4inch widening, just a little bit customized... lol anyway mechanical upgrades first so diff weld Should be within the next few weeks.. I will certainly update. First task is finishing under the hood...
All set for no regrets Mr. Avos as this fat kids crazy not stupid... lmfao contrary to popular belief .. pics of rims upon request of course
Shot peening//plastic deformation
+2 excellent advice ty it could not hurt.. fairly inexpensive so kind of a no brainer now that its been suggested.. its awesome to have your advice I realize you have a plethora of experience, to say the least lol i had a supercharger impeller shot peened on a ripp modifications SC (on a stick)unit I had on a custom dodge rt build we took builders choice with at the 2017 sumospeed @Virginia Beach I'm hoping to have as much fun with this platform
You could also use a 15HU diff from older jaguars, there are some threads about this, they seem to be stronger on the diff/pinion part, you should be able to find these cheap I guess.
I thought about drifting as well on a track for fun, however as it was my main (and only) car I decided not to go ahead with it. I feared issues due to lateral forces on the rear as it doesn't have an upper control arm, so all forces go direct into the driveshafts/diff. You could check how (kit) cars with the jaguar IRS do in drifting, although I take it you will not find ones that weigh as much as the XKR. Maybe someone with more knowledge on the subject can chime in.
I do hope to hear people chime in,, I had helped a friend build a gen3 xj6 that we squished a older 350 in to (I didn't know enough to stop the hypocrisy then lol) I digress... the diff got welded... we beat that car to what should have been an inch from its death but it just freaking laid two fat strips (granted it was on 10" wide 18's) FOREVER AND EVER,,, it just took it on the chin and ran that way for the 8 months I know he owned it, and probably still works great today..
Jaguar enthusiasts don't seem to give the engineering put into these fine cars the reliable credit jags deserve..
I'm going to weld it up and throw the pedal on it until the diff blows out of the carrier then // if then I'll probably look into a better way but it's a toy I'm mainly using to billboard my company name locally at meets and amateur events truly just to have fun and as a bonus also to give my seventeen year old son a reason to stay home and not get all fukkked up like the rest of his generation lol I know I had my fair share of trouble that would not have come to fruition if my father let me wrench on anything that ran on fuel... and especially if he let me drive whatever like I do in the lot with my boy.. much love all thanks for engaging!
OK, that explains a few things. You Sir are indeed the rare bird. Most don't beat the hexx out of their Jags but I get the fun you're having.
I like to open up my car but it's mostly treated very nicely as I hope to keep it alive and enjoyable til I croak.
I had verified interest as a kid but none of them was drugs and partying. I admire the target you are shooting at.
To answer your question, I think you'll be ok with the limp mode thing but your case may object eventually. OMG, 632 at the rear wheel is amazing.
Good luck, TM
ordered a good looking set of Brembro clampers then new pads and rotors today.. sometimes progress simply means shooting the lock off your wallet and purchasing **** you cant live without that your wife finds irrelevant lmfao and,,,,,,, stop-
giandanielxk8??? good sir i see your watching...any thoughts?
Yes sorry, I fell asleep with my computer logged in. I don’t know of anyone that has done it but I am 99% sure the ECU won’t notice. However, on a daily driven car, I wouldn’t be doing this. I would expect some wheel hop when taking tight corners at slow speeds such as in parking spots.
I would also be wary of the welds breaking and the loose bits of metal shredding the diff.
I know OS Gilken and Quaife sell LSDs that can be installed in our cars using the original housing. Expensive, but worth the peace of mind and, reportedly, a very worthwhile upgrade.

oh and just a fyi my stock wheels and tires are going up for sale on the marketplace section of our forum real soon **CHEEP** as **** if anyone might know someone with interest pm me anytime ... As these are going on as soon as i can come up with some disposable monies to wrap these in some new P Zero Pirelli's
Yes thank you sir i do understand and will definitely list them as such when i throw em on the marketplace. I had just meant when i said stock being the ones that came with her when i bought it ..
We found this car randomly on craigslist in Texas one day when looking/daydreaming for a xfr on auto-trader. I'm sure you know but their site has a listing of all the craigslist ads with any car your searching for.. I was actually looking for an '10 xfr,,, i had just sold my xf portfolio recently for an x5 but was still hollow inside with buyers remorse lol and was always wishing i had the R when i had my port' ..
I had seen this little BRG colored xkr and fell in love, called the number got an old lady on the phone and she said it was priced so low because her mechanic said it needed coils (that was total BS fml lol) so ignorantly after talking her down to what i felt was fair, had it shipped. Found out that actually it jumped time and now im ballzzz deep but having a blast with my son building this thing into a little raped ape. We are going to do a ton of custom body mods, a true 6 point, big *** rear break lock, small fuel cell and some other mandatory crap the techs demand.. and let my boy drift it a bit. he was always helping my wife and i with our lemons car and having fun with a wrench. It is in his blood, so i ask of him good grades and he gets to play with dads toys,, a little lol- I write a bunch off in my company's advertisement budget (Shhhhh...lol) and enjoy time with the family.. heck even my 12yr old girl and my 10yr old son get dirty when it comes time to work on a project.
If anyone is in the same area as me there is some fun time in the lot's around here and some kind'a legit events lol ...
i'm not on Facebook any longer but there is a great group i use to chat with that can get anyone sideways on the weekends.. https://www.facebook.com/Piedmontdrift/
any ways thank you all this forum has been my lighthouse with this new to me platform. much love jagforums!!
