Default Help price Neiman Marcus Limited Edition

Would you happen to have any information that would be helpful to me in establishing the appropriate asking price for our XK8 convertible Neiman Marcus Limited Edition 1996 Christmas Catalog Gift Of The Year? I have the original window sticker, contract from West Palm Beach FL dealer dated January 2, 1997, etc. Odometer reads 17,972. Many thanks for your thoughts.

I've looked at a ton of later models and most of the 2006 low mileage cars are in the upper 20k around 27-29k. I'd think with the extreme low mileage yours could be 30k? Maybe a bit more?
Usually the limited editions add about 2-3000 in value. But that's the Jaguar limited editions, like the silverstone and the victory editions. I'm not sure about the Neiman Marcus edition but I do know it was one of the least popular special neiman marcus editions. It was blamed on the fact that it was the last year for the X100 and most people knew the new X150 was coming out. I'd think you could price it around 30+k but don't be insulted it the offered are around 29 or so.

It looks like this car is actually a 97 with fewer than 50 produced making it much rarer than the Victory or Silverstone. I think I'd look at other Neiman editions and try to apply the "added value" that the special edition has given them.

The Silverstone and Victory Edition were both factory builds produced by Jaguar in the UK. The Nieman Markus Limited Edition, in common with many other US-only limited editions, looks to be a dealer build.

The Neiman Marcus Limited Edition package added the sum of $5,075 to the car’s MSRP of $69,900.

The cars included model specific Titanium paint, chrome plated wheels, an oatmeal colored European Sport Leather interior, bird’s-eye maple trim, a Harmon Kardon premium sound system, lamb’s wool carpeting and a wind deflector. Production was limited to a maximum of 50, and available only to customers ordering through Neiman Marcus.

It is all paint, trim and accessory options. There is nothing mentioned about performance upgrades and therefore it is unlikely to be mechanically different from the standard specification.

Difficult to say whether the cachet of Neiman Markus does anything to enhance current value. A similar limited edition of the XJ40 by Harrods in London did exactly the opposite and proved very difficult to sell on the used car market.

Am I missing something here?

The items mentioned below don't really sound like 'dealer build' things to me !

Well, at least not the special paint, leather, and carpeting. I just can't see a dealer repainting and re-trimming a car....and certainly not for $5000 !

Doug,

I wasn't suggesting they built them!

For 'dealer build' read 'dealer spec'. There's nothing in the spec combination that a dealer couldn't order from the factory.

I think that the condition, service history, and accident history of this particular car will be far more important factors in determining its potential market value than the Neiman Marcus options will be. The low mileage will help, but the age of the car will detract....

Good luck with the sale. Price it right and you'll find a buyer in short order....

It all depends on the market. A 99 with 137K miles just went for $14500 at Mecum auction in Reno last weekend.

A knowledgeable Jaguar fan would look at the car with future maintenance issue's in mind--Tensioners, cylinder walls etc. --which will affect the price. Regardless of all the Neiman nice add on's, the car is still 18-19 years old. It is still a beautiful car, but a car which was driven less then 1000 miles a year might have issues--tires, belts, hoses and on and on. But if your just trying to unload it, ask a good price and see where you stand. Don't be offended if your only offered just a little over what a used 96 goes for.

just looking at age-related replacement parts ... battery, tires, belts, hoses, fluids, and then pile on the inevitable (and looks like delayed, in this case) engine part upgrades - I wouldn't offer more than 7k. I can get an updated one for about 12-14, and the parts/labor to redo this one will easily hit 6k by the end of the day.

Again, not here to offend, it's a beautiful car, and I would buy it at the right price, and spend that 6k to make it drivable by my standards. Someone else, might just kick those costs down the food chain ....

Oops. My bad. I read 2006 model year! That changes everything. Yeah, unless all the known issues, special editions or not, tensioners, probably hoses and such, have been sorted, I do input you're looking at more than 11-13k.
I saw a while back a VERY rare burbury edition, one of two, only sold for about 12,500.00. It was basically the same as the neiman marcus edition, special paint, and covered by jaguar special services division in burbury plaid and had door sill plates. I thought it would be much more.
My advice is price it at the high end of book value got your condition and mileage, maybe tack on a couple thousand for the special edition.

Phil,

The Burberry Edition was commissioned by Burberry and built by Jaguar SVO (Special vehicle Operations) in Coventry. The lady who made the seats posted here:

My listing on Ft.Myers Craig's List has already uncovered offers more than 60% above Kelly Blue Book low mileage 1997 XK8 pricing:

This "luxury sports car" was the 1996 Neiman Marcus Christmas Book Gift of the Year. It's been driven under 18,000 miles by two little old ladies here in Naples, so it's practically brand new. Automatic transmission. Power everything. Ice cold A/C. Only 50 were produced with features including:
*Titanium colored exterior
*Oatmeal-colored Connolly sport leather interior
*XK8 chrome wheels
*Harman Kardon premium audiophile sound system with compact disc autochanger
*Stained bird's-eye maple trim
*Lambswool footwell rugs
*Convertible wind deflector

Documentation includes the original window sticker, letter from Jaguar to the original purchaser reserving one of the limited edition convertibles as well as the initial contract from delivering agency. It will qualify to be included in The Depot Show of Naples-Marco Antique Automobile Club Of America in 8 years and continue to appreciate in value. It has been photographed several times in the last three years by Dan Lyons, noted photographer of collector cars located in Rochester NY and could soon appear in books, calendars and newspaper articles. The price now is $22,500.

When Jaguar released the XK8 for 1997, it was heralded as the true successor to the legendary E-Type or XKE as it was known in the United States. The XK8 was chosen specifically to recall that heritage. The "8" refers to the all new V-8 engine. Ford bought Jaguar in the early 90s and invested some $270 million to develop the brilliant new DOHC V-8 engine over the course of several years and more than 200 prototypes. The flowing lines of the XK8 were developed entirely in house and have prevailed ever since. All the major car magazines welcomed Jaguar's new "luxury sports car" with glowing reviews.

Just goes to show what opinions are worth, good luck on the sale. I'd say over 20K and you are doing well.

Edmunds.com has been able to provide no other NM Limited Edition sales in the last 7 years. I have had calls from 5 agents interested in providing a buyer for the car. To me, this is an indication $22,500 is a respectable price. I wish someone could uncover sales history of a few of the 50 cars that are probably still being loved by their owners.

Joe Longo of Calling All Cars has called twice and last month to sell it for me but I told him to check back mid-August. Harry Clark of Classic Promenade — Finding Classic Cars New Homes has perform well for a So. Calif. friend.
