Default HELP! Restricted performance, engine misfiring on bank 1

Hi,

I have a XKR 2001 facelift model (one of the first as it was made in late 2000) and it has some serious problems.

I have given it a new MOT (last week which it passed) and a full service at the same time and I also asked them to look into a misfiring problem. The diagnostics said it was misfiring due to fuel feed being way off on this bank so they changed the oxygen sensor (lambda??) on the left side (for bank 2, cylinders 5, 6, 7, ). The osygen sensor had been changed last year but on the other side.

However this did not cure the problem, they said to fill up the tank and drive her for 30 miles as the computer will then relearn the best settings with the new oxygen sensor.

Apparently the computer locks out the full diagnostics when the fuel tank is low, hence the above advice.

However, the problem still exists so after I returned it for a full diagnostics they gave me a full read out:

Mode 1, actual data number of faults: 6
misfire detection +
fuel system +
comprehen components -
catalyst -
evaporative system -
oxygen sensor +
oxygen sensor heating +
exhaust gas recirculation +

Mode 3/7/A. read fault memory, number of faults: 12

Mode 3, static errors
P0300 randon/multiple cylinders misfire detected
P0305 cylinder 5 misfire detected
P0306 cylinder 6 misfire detected
P0307 cylinder 7 misfire detected
P0308 cylinder 8 misfire detected
P1316 Unknown fault
Mode 7, sporadic errors
P0305 cylinder 5 misfire detected
P0306 cylinder 6 misfire detected
P0307 cylinder 7 misfire detected
P0308 cylinder 8 misfire detected
P1314 unknown fault
P1000 unknown fault
Moda A, permanent errors

They hand wrote on the report:
av injection time offside bank 1234 3.20 ms
av injection time nearside bank 5678 2.50 ms

And gave a further report on fuel trim:
$11 $06 short term fuel trim bank 1 0.0%
$11 $07 long term fuel trim bank 1 14.8%
$11 $06 short term fuel trim bank 2 0.0%
$11 $07 long term fuel trim bank 2 -15.6%

I'm guessing that bank 1 is cylinder 1234 and bank 2 is cylnders 5678.

The garage is having the car back and want to disconnect all the sensors to get the engine to run in default mode and then do a trial by error until they find the fault.

They have done a smoke test on the air intake system and there's no leak.

They said they will do a compression test, but said it could be anything!

It now runs in restricted performance mode, with orange warning light and the engine service light on.

Does anyone know what this means? Can you please offer any advice or explain? I do not know anything, but I love my car and so want it back on the road as soon as possible! Without the garage taking me for a ride!

Thank you to anyone who can help.

do a vacuumn test and report readings. Then a power balance test. If I had to guess, I would say possible cam timing issue. Do you have the original tensioners?

Your long term fuel trims show Bank 1 @ 14.8% and bank 2 @ -15.6%, so Bank 1 is calling for fuel and Bank 2 is leaning out. I would say O2 sensor on Bank 2 could be the culprit. 1314 and 1316 mean the misfire is severe enough to cause catalyst damage. I'm not sure of the cylinder line up on the 01 cars, because the numbering changed. On my 04, Bank 1 is the passenger side(US) cylinders 1,3,5,7 and bank 2 driver's side 2,4,6,8. As for diagnosing your problem, I can't help. Having the same issue on mine, Bank 2, Random misfire 0300, and all four cylinders 0302-0308. Please post your solution as it could help me. I'm thinking mine may be O2 sensor or blocked cat on Bank 2.
