While manually opening my top, I wanted to open the petcock valve on the hydraulic pump and ‘’surprise’’ look like I stripped it open….. Is there an easy way of fixing this?? I ordered the hoses for the top, but in order to have the pump working back I’m gona have to close the petcock first….. I haven’t tried to remove the valve yet…

I am not EVEN going to comment on your title, but are you sure you stripped it?

Seems like that would be hard to do, but if you did then you either have to replace the pump or replace the petcock and to that I would take the pump to a plumbing store to see if they can match it up, as I doubt there is a replacement petcock available.

 

It does turn freely one side or the other so that led me to believe it is stripped, I will open the pump over the weekend to figure out how it works and if it is fixable....

 

I wouldn't open the pump. Are you saying if you turn it clockwise it doesn't tighten up?

If you remove the two Torx screws you should be able to unscrew the petcock completely and examine the threads in the pump body.

 

+1 on that - and if the insert thread is stripped (rather than the petcock thread) would a helicoil work?

 

If he can get one the right size (IF) and if he can keep the O ring.

Cyqb - if you pull the petcock out, please post a photo.

 

Steve, it sounds as if it is over tighten in the open or closed position. Stripped would mean that its free spinning and Will not close or open. Try taking your allen wrench and tap on the tee handle on one side several times to see if it will break loose if not retry it on the other side of the handle. Like i said Tap do not beat it. Jim

 

Jim, you may be right, the OP's description is a bit ambiguous.

When you turn it from one direction to the other does it ever stop turning at all? Clockwise is to close and counter clockwise is to open. I should mention that the petcock will not come out until you remove the 2 screws that hold the plate that prevents the petcock from coming out.

 

I did open it by turning it counter clock wise, I believe it was allready in the open position because it was really hard then when i have been able to turn it, It started to turn freely, I mean really freely...... I tried to close it back by turning it clockwise but again it turn many turns. I will try to remove it by the weekend and post pictures.

I have no idea what it look inside nor how it works so I will open it to figure out if I can manage to fix it.

The petcock is one piece and it has only one moving part and that is the stay that has the two screws that hold it in place. I think what you did is over loosen it causing the thread on the petcock to strip. I do not think this is a disaster but it will take a tap and die set to correct it if it is bad. One thing is not to let the shavings to get into the unit.

 

Call it job done! I replaced my latches hoses and fixed the petcock issue yesterday. $400 of parts and about 7-8 hours of my time. While I had the complete interior in my hand I decided it clean it out touroughly, not that it was very dirty but still, it was easy to clean every inches of it… As for the petcock, I quickly realised that you just can’t strip it open when I removed it, If you loosen it to much, it simply gets out of the threaded hole and becomes loose , so I ccleaned it and pushed it back in the threaded hole and it now work just perfectly.
