Default HID headlights switch RH to LH dip

Hello
There was an earlier post on this
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...itch-eu-64196/
with a picture of an Audi headlight but the thread sort of petered out without an explanation of what actually has to be done.
I'd be most grateful for an idiot's guide since I'm probably going to have to try doing this in a hotel car park!

Hey Steve;

I think the answer depends on what year your car is.

These posts from my earlier thread are in reference to the mounting brackets on the back of the lights.

Jamjax, here is a link to the eBay ad where I found my deflectors. I have bought bits from the seller (a Jaguar breaker) before and they're pretty good. I will need to fit the deflectors before the car's next contrôle technique, but that's not until January 2013.

So you depending on the year and type of lights you have, you can either just turn them around, switch them from side to side or buy LHD brackets to remount them.

And I repeat my earlier un-answered question to the forum :

Is there a way to adjust the cutoff height of self adjusting HID head lights?

good luck and let us know what year and model you have.

cheers,

jj

Sorry, I hadn't realised the car details in my profile didn't magically appear.
The car is a 2004 XKR flophead droopy so it has HID lights. I imagine from the earlier post there's some 'simple' adjustment, I just can't work out what it is!!

It is a simple job, only a lot of work iirc. The headlight needs to be removed which will be the hardest part. Then you need to take out the inner light mechinism and you will see for yourself the deflector plate (which sits between the lens and the light), all you need to do is turn the deflector arround.

Thanks Avos, Presumably I'm going to rotate this thing 180° around its vertical axis to get a mirror image of the deflection pattern?
It doesn't sound like an hotel car park job so I'll use sticky tape for the trip home and try to take some pictures if that would help others.

Thanks Avos....as usual.

Steve you can edit your Avatar and your signature after ten posts I think...and then the info will be displayed....

Seems we have the same car.

What color did you fall in love with?

Never heard flophead droopy before, fun.

They say you don't learn more French you forget more English the longer you are over here.

cheers,

jj

Jamjax
I do believe 'flophead droopy' was actually coined to describe the XK120 drophead coupé's real life appearance!
I've gone for slate grey with ivory leather - I couldn't find one in BRG.
Point well taken about black leather in another post BTW, when your flophead is drooped there'd be serious risk to the nether regions in summer here.
Our closest friends live just outside Geneva BTW. He is a Swiss accountant so they can afford to spend 6 months there and 6 months here in the Limousin!

Veritcaly would mean you would beam up in the sky, it needs to be turned horizonaly 180°

Steve;

My grandfather had a grey with red interior XK120 Coupe....very classy looking but therefore I never got the 'dope' on the name or the convertible.

That is actually the color I was looking for and couldn't find, this is my second choice but we really are enjoying it.

Come on up for some skiing and fondue or raclette this year.

Give us a shout if you are in town.

Not in the XKR presumably.

cheers,

jj

Sorry, it's the engineer in me speaking. The vertical axis is what you'd get by holding a plumb line across the centre of the thing so rotating it round that is, as you say, rotating it horizontally. Beam me up vertically Scotty!

Default HID conversion RHD to LHD

Hello all

I bought a pair of RHD HIDs with the intention to install them in my 1999 XKR. The wiring is OK but I need to convert from RHD to LHD as I live in Sweden. Before taking the light out, I studied the mechanism and noticed that there seems to be some sort of mechanism that lockc the direction of the beam in a fixed direction between left and right.

Anyway, now I have the HID out and am looking for the plate that needs to be turned by 180 degrees. Between the bulb and the lens, there is fixed plate that pretty well covers the lower half of the reflector. There is a V shaped bulge which points towards the lens on the upper side of the plate on the one side.

--> Is this the plate that needs to be turned?

--> Or is it simply that I should use the 'left/right' adjustment mentioned above?

I have a photo if I can figure out how to attech it (new member!!).

Cheers
Mark

I like lit color interiors but my XK8 was black on black. Since then I've totally customized the car and changed the seats and door inserts to oatmeal with black piping !!my legs are much happier!! LolHID headlights switch RH to LH dip-image.jpg
