Default High pitch squeak from rear wheel

Good evening guys & girls.
I have a constant squeak from the driverside rear wheel as soon as I reach 10mph! It's not particularly loud ( can't hear it with the windows up)
The pads are quite low but braking does not change the noise at all.
Could it be a wheel bearing? In my experience that would be more of a rumble.
Does anyone have any ideas to what it could be?
Thank you in advance :-)

Could be lots of things. Maybe it has a wear indicator on the pads? These are meant to squeal and let you know it's time to change pads. Could be the disk shield is touching the rotor. You get the idea, many things.

Best advice is to put it up on stands and look/listen while rotating the wheel. If no luck, take off the wheel and repeat the search while rotating the hub.

Thanks fro replying Jag#4
I've had the car up on jacks, span the wheel but there is no noise, so took it to my friend who is a mechanic. We lifted the whole car up, put it in gear then sure enough oncce it got over 10mph the squeak came back. We squirted the disk with grease, degrease but it made no difference whatsoever.

Time for a better mechanic to jump in here, but if it was in the air and only squeaked when in gear, it sounds like a more mechanical problem.

It may not be due to the wheel itself spinning, as you should be able to spin it more than 10 MPH by hand.

Are you sure the sound is from the wheel area and not the rear end? Or rear possibly subframe mounts?

Hang in there, lots of real mechanics on this board. Someone will step up soon.

Default Squeek

I had a similar problem turned out the nut securing the rear wheel bearing hadn't been properly secured and the rotor was coming in contact with the caliper. Ruined a disk.

Had the same problem a few months ago, replaced the driver's side rear wheel bearing and noise disappeared. Before replacing bearing, we thought it might be the shield around brakes coming in contact with rotor and several other possibilities but it turned out to be what I suspected, the wheel bearing.

Thanks guys.
I'll replace the brake pads and if it still makes the noise i'll do the wheel bearing too.
