Default HK Radio/Cassette problem

Hi All.
Model XK8,1996 (Convertible) Harman Kardon Unit (with front tweeters).
The display panel of the Radio/Cassette unit seems to have developed a fault, There is a black shadow across the screen that is preventing me from reading the station numbers, etc. Is this terminal, or is there a (reasonably easy fix) replacement panel available that can be soldered in?
Also and possibly more annoying, the same looks like it may be happening to the temperature display panel. Can the onset be prevented or is it just a case of accepting the problems of owning an old car?
Any thoughts?

Mark.
If it is the LCD display that has gone, there's no easy fix other than a replacement head unit. Even if you could unsolder the LCD display, I don't think you could get a replacement. I did a vast amount of research when mine packed up, and they are just not obtainable, even at any price.

If it is 'just' the backlight (and that's not the case from what you say), it is possible to solder in a new tiny bulb. It involves a fair amount of dismantling of the head unit, but it can be done.

The temperature display panel is a similar situation, but much easier to source used as it is common to lots of early jaguar cars, whereas the Harmon Kardon radio was only installed for a fairly limited time.
