The Aventador, as most other Lamborghinis (especially the old Countachs), look okay in a photo as the one above, but in person they're a "jumble" of angles, plastic add-ons, and overly wrought shapes with little sensuality. What makes most Ferraris, our XK series, and most desirable classic sports cars so beautiful (like the XKE) is the combination of aggression and sensuality. You might as well add hood scoops and vents all over the car (oh yeah, that's what Lambos do) just to make it look mean. I'll take refinement anytime.

Well here is what it looks like with the grille blacked out....actually gunmetal to match the refurbished Sepang's.

This link is info on what I did with my curbed (before I bought the car) Sepang's.

xenophobe,
Love the Cadillac concept (wouldn't that be a great successor to the XLR), hate the Aventador, love the look of your XKR as well.

malbec,
I actually like your car (especially the color, wonder why) better than the Ferrari you've attached. I love Ferraris, but I don't think of this as one of their best designs, though certainly a 1000 times better than the lambo. (How could the same company produce as beautiful a car as the Miura and then follow it up with such hideous cars as the Countach and the Aventador)

I am still more partial to more simple body designs with cleaner lines. I chose my Pantera for that reason and prefer the original body design to the later wide bodied cars (both seen below). Subtle aggression is just so damned sexy compared to overwrought boyracers.

Growler - I like your car. The side repeater needs to go somehow.

Thanks. If I could get clear ones I would change them.
Any ideas? Are they available?

The license plate also but its a $109.00 fine if it does. I tried that and I can tell you that one from experience!

I've seen a thread somewhere on clear lens bulk buy;
Worth a search if you're interested.
One of the only modded XK's I really like.

The repeaters are a fairly common Ford part and can be found in clear or a "smoked" color from ebay for relatively low prices.

Something like:
Clear Jaguar s Type R XK8 XK 8 XKR Convertible X100 Side Repeaters Indicators | eBay
or
Smoked Jaguar s Type R XK8 XK 8 XKR Convertible X100 Side Repeaters Indicators | eBay

The front marker I could never find in the smoke color so ended up getting a clear set of lenses and tinting them on the inside with tail light spray before assembling them.

XKZ is the ebay store where I found mine.
2 x Jaguar XK8 XKR Clear Side Bumper Reflector Lenses 2 Pieces | eBay

Goes well with a black car if I do say so myself.

There are two types of 'clear' repeaters available. The first, easily found on eBay, are actually translucent white. I had them on my car for over a year:

I thought they looked ok, until I stumbled across these:

They are true crystal clear lenses and match the head- and fog light design better. The bad news is they are very, very hard to find as they are no longer in production. I bought two pairs last year for about £100, intending to keep one pair as a spare. However, I ended up parting with the second pair a few months ago for nearly £300 to a guy in London who was desperate for them.

It's got to be the 'smokey' repeaters then.
Those are just reflectors on European cars BTW.

Default Keeping mine!!

I plan to keep my 03 XKR for as long as I can still drive. Just turned 75. I have documented all the history on my car-date made, owners history, all service history, all awards won and have it in a nice folder. It would appear that our XKR's will start to appreciate in the next 5 years and in 10 years who knows what a XKR in excellent condition will sell for. Just keep driving them, enjoy them, and maintain them and you will get your reward.

I agree that white ones on the rear don't look right. I tried them at first, but quickly changed to red like you.

Good for you Bill. I'm approaching 70 and can still see off most cars on the road.
My 17 year old daughter just says 'Dad , make it growl'. Her friends queue up for a drive in the car.

Yeah, the red ones in the back look best red. I mocked up a blacked out rear, but the red actually looked a lot better.

I just wanted to get rid of the horrible yellow turn markers and front yellow running lights.

The original orange markers/reflectors/repeaters look horrid on most body colours, with the possible exception of black or grey.

Yeah, I'd agree, but they still looked horribly dated on black.

Swapping out for clear makes the car look much newer.

Default A thing of beauty..

I love the E-type Coupes, but they just aren't as beautiful as my '97 XK8 in BRG w/factory chrome wheels.
