Hood Not Latched error code

Hood Not Latched error code
After checking the electrical with the schematic from Gus's web site I found the top raised switch in the right side hyd cyl was open. The top was up but the rear windows didn't go up and the top would not go down , nothing would happen with either the door or the console switch.
I opened the manual valve on the hyd pump and cycled the switches in the top latches and found them to be opening and closing with .7 ohm resistance when closed. I briefly hot wired the top up relay to extend the top hydraulic cylinders and the top raised switch in the cyl was closed .2 ohms res. The error code was still there.
Checked the inputs at the bpm plug FC 14 : pin 36 .8 ohms to grnd
pin 62 .7 ohms to grnd
pin 89 .7 ohms to grnd
pin 10 32 ohms to grnd
pin 63 25 ohms to grnd
Pins 10 and 63 are the console switch and are momentary when the switch is pushed. the top still would not work so I took it to a Jag dealer. They told me the top raised switch in the cyl was bad and had to be replaced $691.00 . I told them I thought the switch was good and told him to read my notes I had sent with the wife when she checked the car in. He said his tech told him it was a integrated switch which I didn't really believe but I told them to fix it anyway. The hyd cyl had to be ordered so wife brought car home.
The check engine light was now on too so I went to Harbor Freight and bought a obd 11 reader. Rechecked the top raised switch it was closed. Check for error codes had p1384 and pending code 1000. Cleared the codes and the top works perfectly. WARNING BEWARE OF JAG DEALERS!
And once more THANK YOU GUS!
Regards Walt

I doubt the Jag dealer was trying to intentionally screw you over. The switch might be intermittent, and when they checked it it was reading bad, and then it cleared up.
The P1384 code indicates a problem with the variable valve timing. That would be completely unrelated to the convertible top.

Just got all excited over a "hood not latched" error code. I had been working on various little problems with my Jag and was under the "hood" looking for my air cabin filter. I had also been trying to put a small plastic retainer that holds the top lining down after, the rear 1/4 panel regulator assembly was replaced and the tech forget to put the retainer back, I had opened the "top" and it was in a limbo state with the top latch sticking up. When I put everything back together I got this error. Did something get disconnected under the hood when I was looking for the cabin air filter??? I opened and closed the hood several times but still got the error. After a few curse words I came in for a cup of coffee and then it finally occurred to me, the Brits call the hood the bonnet and the convertible top the hood. I should have remembered that as I had lived in London for several years in the 1960's and owned a few British cars while there. I went back to the garage and put the hood (convertible top) all the way down and you guessed it, no more "hood not latched" error. Some genius huh LOL!!! I would bet that some other American Jag owners have got fooled on this besides me.
