Default Hood release adjustment...

I have a 2002 XKR 100, and have an issue with the hood. I had it replaced about two years ago after striking a Deer. Ever since then, I have to simultaneously pull the hood release with my right hand and with my left hand slightly lift the edge of the hood up. If I don't do this I can't open the hood.

Before I had the hood replaced, whenever I pulled the release lever the hood would "pop up" a few inches. The hood has hooks on each side which when locked down hold the hood securely in place, and I can't see adjusting this to put any upward pressure on the hood.

Is the normal pop up achieved from the pressure of the gas shocks that hold the hood up? What causes the hood to pop up when the release lever is pulled?

TIA

I never paid any attention but my hood doesn't pop up more than 1/2", You pull the release and it opens the latch but the hood doesn't pop up two inches, it's released then you can you can open it all the way. and when closing it I drop it about 6 inches from closure. then it latches. It sounds like the latch on the drivers side is tight against the hook on the hood. Your adjustment may be an alignment on the hook. The hook should have some play I would think for adjustment. Good Luck

I appreciate the reply. The distance it pops up may not be accurate as to the *exact* amount it pops up - I was just trying to be descriptive. My apologies here.

The hooks are completely clear of the latching bar of the mechanism when the release is pulled. There just isn't any upward force to push the hood up once the release is pulled. There are no springs/etc in or around the latch release.

The only thing that looks like it could be applying any upward force to cause the "pop up" of the hood is the gas shocks that assist with the raising of the hood.

When I unlock my '98 XK8's hood it doesn't move at all but it's free. I just have to lift it up. When closing I also ease it down to about 6" then let it drop. It's then locked tight. Jack

I would try closing the latch with a screw driver and have somebody release it and see what it does if it's re-closing or not opening all the way. It might give you some idea as to what's happening with it.
