Default How Bad Is It - Rear Window Regulator Failure!

XK8 / XKR Owners,

Just had my passenger side rear window fail! Electric motor seems to be working. I have not disassembled anything yet. How Bad Is It? Has anyone done this job before (repair rear window regulator)? Any suggestions on procedure and/or required parts?

Thanks,

Phillip

The thread and PDF Wayne linked to will tell you everything you need to know. I just changed mine, and it took about 5 or 6 hours. Make certain you tape up the top of the rear quarter panel (I used wide masking tape, followed by duct tape to avoid scratches.

Also recommend the trick of removing the window glass 'guide' near the top (a single bolt, easy to get to). This then makes it a lot easier to get to the three torque bolts that hold the outer window seal in place. I found that the easiest way to undo the front one was to use a short torque hex bit in my miniature 1/4" ratchet (this has saved me several times - it will fit almost anywhere)

Good luck!

-Steve

Did mine last year. Best tip I can give is that taking the frame out and putting back in is a two man job

also if the window is stuck there remove the side panel and if replacing it cut the cable that snapped off and you should be able to lift up the window till you replace the regulator. job is more time consuming than anything. message me if you want more info.
