How To Change The Oil In The XKR ? Which Should I Use Conventional or Synthetic ?
I just picked up my XKR a couple weeks ago and I want to learn how to change the oil. Are there any DIY instructions around here ? How often should I change the oil ? Should I use conventional or synthetic oil ? What type of filter ? Also I did my oil changes on my BMW with an oil extractor which sucks all the oil out with a tube in 5 mins. Do you recommend this for the XKR ? Please give me some advice. Thanks

For purely selfish reasons and that I'm lazy I have started using Castrol Edge which is about 7.00 a quart but this new oil has a 15000 mile change interval. I had been using Castrol Syntec without issue. But for purely economic reasons I have switched to Castrol Edge.
I do splurge and pony up for the jag filter 15 to 20 bucks.
7@ $7.00 = 49.00 thats $16.00 for every 5000 miles driven.
vs
7@ $6.00= 42.00 thats $42.00 for every 5000 miles driven.
Hey its only money.
Go to castrol's web site for more info.

People have suggested avoiding Fram filters also, get the jag ones or a better brand.
As for the manufacturer vs oil guys, they simply are relating time for oil breakdown of their product compared to dino oil, so using that as information only, an owner can interpret and judge a proper change interval. As for me, I am now going to 5,000 miles with full synthetic.

I guess no matter what you do you have to be comfortable with it.
Besides its just a blame game if one or the other fails.

I know that Oil types and the intervals between changes are very personal choices and almost everyone has a strong opinion. For me, I like Mobil 1 Synthetic and I think every 5,000 miles is a good schedule without risking unneccessary wear-n-tear on the engine. In addition, it is very easy to remember when your car needs a change once you get on this schedule. I just did mine at 55K, so when it is close to 60K it will be time again. No sticker needed nor checking the Service Records. It works for me!
