If there is an easy source, then what you suggest would be WAY easier.
But I guess my question is if both IC pumps both have two wires to their respective connecters, positive and negative, then I am thinking it would be easiest to just snip the wires in the center of each set of wires, and put the stock pump connector wires on the new Bosch pump wires, matching the (+) (-)? Then that way you are changing the connectors via the wires.

Hopefully that makes sense?

There are no wires on the Bosch pump at all, only the male side of the connector. And the other side of the harness is hard wired to the old pump.

I cut the wires off the old pump entirely and then spliced them to the new pump. The connection is using the original connector on the vehicle harness so the new pump unplugs and comes out, just as original.

Note that the connector Mercedes #2305400081, which fits the 010 pump perfectly, does not come with any pins. You'll have to find a suitable source for these. Luckily I had a small computer box fan laying around and was able to use the pins from it which fit the pump connector perfectly. I made a small pigtail cable by cutting off the wire from the old pump and attaching this connector to it. That way I did not need to alter the original harness and could still install an OEM pump again if needed. I also filled in the end around the wires with black silicon to seal the back and give the wires some support.

connector and pins used

Donor Device (less connector now...)

I also made a new strap from some scrap stainless and added some rubber around the pump in addition to the original rubber mount since the Bosch pump is larger than the OEM one.

Completed pigtail and Bosch pump mounted to bracket

Part Numbers for me buying locally at the Mercedes dealer:

Here are the Mercedes part numbers needed to build the plug that fits the 010 bosch pump:

Qty 1 of: 230-540-00-81 "COUPLING" - $2.70
Qty 2 of: 008-545-63-26 "PLUG" - $7.20 (total)
Qty 2 of: 000-54568-80 "RUBBER RIN" - $6.30 (total)

Total Price at local Mercedes dealer - $16.20

I did this on my XKR and works great and now modular!

Is it necessary to get all of those components? Could I just get the 230-540-00-81 plug and be good?

AZJag1999: You can just get the 230-540-00-81 plug but you'll still have to scavenge the pins from something else like I did above and put a little silicone glue in the back. The part you reference is only the plastic housing and does not come with the electrical connections. If you have some "pick it yourself" junkyards around you might be able to just go there and clip off everything you need from an old MB.

I just ordered the pump, 2305400081 plug and will find some spare wires around the house to use.

Thanks for the info.

I cant believe there isn't a pigtail plug for this pump. It seems everyone and their dog are upgrading to the 010 pump.Got my pump yesterday and dont want to botch the job , so it looks like a trip to MB , yuck,"hate those Germans, they bombed our chip shop":..lol.

Went to a parts store this morning , he threw a connectors book at me, yea ok. 40 odd two pin plugs that look like they "could" fit.

Id actually be interested to see what MB fit, probably the MB suggestion seen on here, plug and a bunch of pins.

I can't really tell if mine is working or not, I can't feel any coolant in the hoses? There is a slight vibration on the pump when the ignition is turned on though but it's barely noticeable. Are we sure that the pump works all the time? It doesn't make much sense to run all the time but only once the car has reached temp.

Default Correct wire colors

!. To confirm, the black/red tracer is positive and the brown/black is negative??

2. With the metal cap atop the Intercooler on top of the engine removed and the intercooler pump operating, you should see coolant flowing steadily through??

TIA

I gave up, it beat me. I've booked it into a garage and asked them to fix it.

The pump had failed. Not sure why. I had a 10 amp fuse on like the original Hella unit but the new pump was 5 amp draw which could be the problem. It was an AVT pump which I have seen a few other people had problems with, I might just get the Bosch 010 unit instead as that should be more reliable.

My bonnet isn't opening now. The left latch opens the drivers latch doesn't. Cable has probably snapped or some ****, I swear this car will be the end of me. I have no idea how I'm going to open the bonnet, I tried pulling but it's not going anywhere, I read I will have to drill a hole in the wheel arch to get at the latch. Is there any other way? I think the caple has snapped because when I pull the latch it doesn't have as much resistance on it as it did previously.

When the hood cable snapped on my 2005 S-Type I was able to remove the splash guard panels underneath the bumper, then work a long screwdriver up to the latch and trip it by pushing the tip of the screwdriver in the correct direction. Going up through the fender well may indeed be your best approach on an XK8 / XKR....

You need to cut a hole apparently so you can do this. Probably in a couple of weeks when I get an oil leak looked at perhaps, the thing is if the cable has come off once then it will probably do it again so I need to improve it. I did see someone use a cable tie around the cable to keep it from jumping out. I just hope I don't need to get in there anytime soon. A lot of the time I question things that Jaguar have done and this is that very time, they could have made this a lot easier.

Thicker and stronger hood latch cables would have prevented these issues. My now-sold S-Type hood cable issue occurred probably a decade ago. Ever since then, I have pulled very gently on the hood release handles on any Jaguar to try to ensure that I do not snap them. I have always yanked the hood release handle on my trusty 1999 Ram out of habit, but its cable is probably three times stronger than any Jaguar hood cable so I have never had a problem with it....

I was always gentle with it but I think the garage was less gentle and they probably slammed the bonnet down as well to get it to close because sometimes it won't shut properly. I will get them to sort it out next time when I get a new intercooler pump fitted. I will get a Bosch one or just use the original one perhaps? If I had the space I would do it myself but I only have a gravel driveway and it's my daily car so I need it ont he road most of the time. When things like this happen to my car it keeps me awake at night and I get antsy.
