Ok, I have a different question and mostly about time :

Well, I do use Castrol 10W60 and full synth oil .It's recommended to change it every 15000 kilometers .However I have covered 3500K miles in 1 year and what happens if I don't change the oil in 1 year ? Would Full Synth Oil still keep my engine safe and sound or would it lose its capability after 1 year

Synth oils are more expensive than conventional dino oils but synth oils give you extended change intervals .

Is it always required to change the oil after 1 year even if you do use full synth oil and no matter what mileage you cover ,that would be my biggest and foremost concern .

One year is what I understood to be a maximum interval for all motor oils. I am over protective and go approx. 5K miles between changes and use 10W-30 Pennzoil Platinum synthetic. over 94,000 miles on it.

(The oil choice was recommended from another forum by members that performed chemical analysis on various oils. I understand Royal Purple is also a very good choice)

Castrol Edge, 10w-30, every 5000-7000 miles. Never longer then a year. Using about one half quart every 5000 miles and the engine runs as smooth as silk.

Cheers.

Default Mobil 1 for me

Hi
I've been usung Mobil 1 synthetic for the past 7 years. Great results. I drive the XK8 Conv. about 5,000 miles per year and generally change oil & filter each year before putting her away for the winter season.
Later
Ed

Cheapo oil like shell $1.5/qtr 5-30W every 5k miles or annually works fine for me. If ur changing every 5K just use the cheapest crap out there. Sync oil will last 5yrs in a car they wont break down but a waste if your changing at 5K intervals.

All these cars you buy in the USA jags/mercs/porsche e.t.c have 10-12K oil changes in Europe and there they drive 2X as fast and stop and start a lot more.

You're supposed to change the oil?

I have 3 cars(2 Jags) to drive so I don't put a lot of miles on any one of them. Once a year no matter the mileage with 5w-30 Castrol Syntec.

There is one of you in every crowd!

I go about 10 to 12K per change on Mobil 1. I put on mostly highway miles, although a fair amount is in rush hour stop and go traffic. I have found that this works very well for every commuter vehicle I have driven. My tow vehicle on the other hand gets changed around 5K.

I'm using Castrol GTX High Mileage 5w-30 and change it between 5k-6k

First time I did my own since owning it. Jag by me was originally $50.00 now they're @ $100.00 so for that I'll do it myself. Really easy to change, didn't even have to jack up the car cause you can reach everything from the front.

It looks like "we" (me and mostly local tech Justin) are using Mobil 1, and changing it and the filter 2X a year - Just before Summer and Winter (not that we have either here!). That translates to 4-5K miles for each change, and doesn't cost an arm and a leg - +/- $50 - and get a complete car checkout each time.

I've always been told to change the fluids and the metal will last! Best, DaleD

Default Royal Purple

As I seldom even get to 5000 per year I just follow the annual change interval. I've been using Royal Purple 5w30 for the last 3 years and it has helped quiet the engine (prior oil was Mobile 1 -- too thin).

I've noticed a number of you are using 10W30 instead of 5W30 that's recommended in the JTIS. Is there a reason for that?

I recently started doing my own and went with the castrol as I read in a forum search that that's what jag dealers in europe were using. Castrol GTX blend is supposedly what it was. I know my dealer used a blend on mine so stayed with that over full synth.

I did notice after the oil change that the engine did seem a little louder but I used the high mileage stuff, I though it would help quiet it a bit.

Today most motor oils, regular or sync, are goor for at least 5000k especially with the no-lead fuels. I use regular oil and change it after 3000k or 6 months. The bigger issue is moisture in the oil from short trips where the engine does not reach full operating temperature for an extended period. With regular oil the moisture will eventually mix with the oil however, with sync the water will collect at the bottom of the pan. Try to run your car for at least an hour a month to keep moisture from developing.

I change my motor oil every 5000 miles. Currently I'm using Total Motor Oil Full Synthetic 5W-40. But I'm thinking of changing to Mobil 1 Extended Performance Full Synthetic 5W-30 to get better gas mileage.

I use Mobile 1 5w30. The car averages 5000 mi a year so I change it once a year.

Mobil 1 and Penzoil Platinum had the best reviews according to a study that I read so I use whichever is on sale, 5W30. Filter is Ford FL2021. I Do both last thing in the fall before she goes to bed and before a big trip in the summer if the mileage is going to be over 8000k (kms)
