Default How rare is my XKR?

First off, thanks for taking the time...

I have a 2004 XKR Convertible it is Ebony on Cashmere. When I purchased the car out of California it was listed as a "Recaro Edition". I was told it fell in the same category (rareness) as the portfolio. It has Recaro's, Cross-Drilled Brembo's (red), Super Sport suspension, BBS Detroit 20's, Aluminum trimmed guages and shifter, Special edition door sill plates, chrome door handles, Xenon's with washers, nav and front and rear park sensors.... The VIN is SAJDA42BX43A37456. It currently has 88k on it and I am thinking of selling. I would prefer to keep it, although my wife (primary driver) thinks she wants a porsche 991 S.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center to XK8/XKR forum. The Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center is for posts about the forum and not for tech questions.

Members here with the same model will be be able to advise on the rarity of your spec.

My first thoughts were that the "Recaro Edition" was a CA dealer special and not an official factory build spec.

However, I found mentions of a 2005 XKR "Recaro Edition" for sale in New Zealand and another in France but both have been sold and the links are now dead.

I'll be interested to see if anyone comes up with further information on this one. It's clearly scarce!

Good luck persuading your wife away from the new 991 gen 911s. I drove that and three of its less expensive siblings on a race track and was flabbergasted as to how good all of them are.

When I was looking for XKRs two years ago, I regretfully passed on one near me that was "rare." 2002 XKR convertible special edition, Recaro seats, Brembo brakes, dark exterior and interior (the reason I passed on it), 50,000 miles that sold for $16,500 after failed eBay selling attempts and he found AutoTrader and all the others useless. Rare isn't the key item. If you sell that car, be prepared for price that may only cover the costs of taxes and registration on your new Porsche.

What, no pictures? Entice us!

When I first purchased the car I was able to look at 2 others that were on the market specified as "Recaro Edition". 1 in the U.S. and 1 in the UK... I thought I looked at something that said the car actually sits about 1" lower than the regular XKR. I am not certain if that accounts for the Super Sport suspension or not.

Was it one of the "100" Edition commemorating the 100th anniversary of William Lyons birth?

I can put some up on Friday after I rinse it off(Wife is driving it). Your 100% correct on the taxes and fees. Is the 991S $80K nicer than the XKR? That is what I am trying to sell my wife on.

Thought that was 2002 only? I have also read that it would have carbon fiber accents in the interior (this one does not). It does however have the aluminum pedals.

Correct - "100" Edition was 2002 only.

I was responding there to Steven's (weisberg) post #4 about the 2002.

Hi Grahm, I was reading posts about the "Recaro Edition" XKR and saw that someone thought it might be a California Dealer makeup. I have an 04XKR Conv that was ordered as a personal car and kept until 09 by the owner of Clevevland Jaguar. It has all Black Recaro's w non electric headrests, cross drilled Brembo's with Red Calipers, 20" BBS Detroit Wheels, Adaptive Headlights, and seems to sit lower at 14 1/2 inches from the Wheel center to the apex of the fender opening above. Is it possible that a handling package was added? Thanks, Jim

The original buyer/owner must have thought it to be something special putting on 7,000 miles in 5 years. I do having just turned 15K miles this fall.

I did recently find an expired listing in the UK which was titled as 2004 XKR Recaro Edition showing a photo of a Coupe.

Please let me know if you ever come up with something official. My only guess to date is that it may have been an early dealer incentive when it was a new model year.

BTW: Jaguar USA's system will not recognise the VIN Number. Jaguar's system shows it being a UK delivered car.
