Mine is a convertible, like in the original video. And I removed the tank completely due to needing to clean out rust. And I would prefer not to cut any sheet metal, in any case.

I am talking two 4 in cuts with a jigssaw in the "parcel shelf". Inconsequential and I can now change the pump at the roadside if necessary.
After 25 years mine was like new inside.

At one time I was actually considering cutting into the tank from right there. I have a little experience working with sheet metal, and I figured I could pretty easily cut a circle out of the tank and fabricate an access hole cover. But then my hero, Avos, invented a superior fuel line removal tool, and I didn't need to resort to metal mangling solution.
I dont know about the coup but on the convert i cut a 3 sided flap bent back ane was in the fuel tank in 30 min. When done bent it closed uaed some metal tape but the rug back an done in about 1 1/2 hours

Default Done

I've finished, and the car has started for the first time under my ownership today.

Removing the lines and re-sinking them is really not all that bad after having done it. Just takes a little patience and wherewithal.

For those that want to hack and slash due to impatience, by all means, cut up your sheet metal. For me, I like the machine preserved as it is, and I also like to avoid fumes in the cabin.

Thank you to all those who have supported me in my endeavor, and my introduction to this forum!

Its two four inch cuts in the parcel shelf from the speaker hole to the front of the shelf,
there are lots of holes between the trunk and the cabin anyway.

As a mechanic working other peoples cars, you should not just cut up the customer's car.
When I worked at the dealer I probably would have been terminated if I took it upon myself to cut out a body section to shortcut a repair.

I appreciate that people can do whatever they want to their own car but..................

There were times when the customer ASKED to perform a repair by cutting or drilling to save labor but usually at an independent repair facility.
They understood the procedure and agreed.
