Default How to take dash vents off XK8 card stuck inside

2002 Jag Xk8 convertible. Something fell down the vent on the dash directly underneath the windshield. Does anyone know how to open those vents.

Is there a site with an exploding view of the jag so that you can see where the screws are etc... a manual of some kind.

Anyone know how or recommend how to clean the interior convertible top. Can you spray cleaner on it and vacuum it off. Seems like the old owner may have and it deteriorated somewhat in spots.

Thank you.

The dash vents under the windscreen snap in place. But be very careful when removing because the plastics on this car get brittle and will expolde in your hands . I would first see if you will even be able to reach in there and reteive what ever fell in there. Its a good thing you have a convertible because you can put the top down.

You may have to pull duct work out to actually get what ever out. But if you are not having any noise and all is good i'd wait.

Convertible top cleaner, Harrtz Raggtopp Cleaner. http://www.wolfsteins.com/ its the best I have used. Pro grade, much better than the standard fair at the local auto parts house.

I think he was asking about the interior of the convertible top (i.e., the felt-like liner material). I have read and heard that isopropyl alcohol (basic rubbing alcohol) should work but I would imagine that one of the many spray-on-vacuum-off types of products should also work. I wonder if spraying scotchguard on the inside would help to resist future staining/discoloration.

Thank you for the information. I may leave it as you suggest. It only makes noise once in a while when I turn a corner; as it slides from the left all the way to the right. I have senn it slightly pop up only once when the defroster was on... I would probably cause damage which would not be worth it. Thank you.

I am unable to access your jpeg. How do I gain access/permission. Why does the sight restrict what users are providing each other.

Have you tried turning the defroster on with a shop vac nozzle over the vent. You may get lucky an suck it out.

That is a good idea, and also to have a small pick tool to stab the item.

I always keep a variety of hemostats in my tool box. They come in handy for this type of problem.

I saw a magnetic flexible wand at at car parts store. Would be good to try if your object sticks to a magnet.
