Hvac blower fans???????
Does the 97 XK8 have two blowers motors/fans in the car, one on each side? Reason I ask is that I have always felt that system in my car does not push the air nearly as hard as I have seen in my other cars, hell even in a VW BUG (70's ha ha).
Reason I ask this again is that I was under the dash just now cause with the key on but car not running and heat/air OFF I could hear a slight fan motor noise coming from the right footwell but NOTHING from the left side. When I turn on the heat then I can clearly hear it firing up on the left side and blowing hard as set to do. Why am I hearing a sloooow motor.fan sound from right footwell when the heat is turned off??

brgjag, you are going to laugh at this one. Your ECM and TCM control modules have their own fans to help the modules stay cool. What you are hearing is that fan running. THe modules are located right in that corner of the car that you are hearing the fan in.
As for the blower motor, I believe you only have a single motor.

The XK8-XKR have Dual Climate Control Blower Motors. They both appear to run at the same speed at the same time. In addition, there is a seperate small fan motor to draw air over the aspirator sensor used for Temp Control. With the small cabin, 1 blower motor would seem to be adequate. But, of course, it's a Jaguar.

The max Blower Speed is only avaliable with the A/C set to Re-Circulating.
When Outside Air (Normal A/C) is selected the Blower Speeds are reduced. Very Frustrating.
Even with Re-Circ selected, if the Freon is low, the A/C will not be cold enough in a car that was parked in the sun.

Mine will freeze your *** off and I am in GA!! There isn't much space to cool and the capacity is the same as in the sedan. I don't think I have ever had the fan speed on high. I leave it on recirculate all the time because I don't need the outside exhaust and pollution drawn into the car, especially in the summer months.
I have done the recirc thing and it does blow harder. Even with that it just is a weak *** blow compared to my 96 Tbird. The ac is ice cold, just can't cool the car down on a hot hot day. As for the heat it blows well enought for that.
I called my local dealer and he didn't know what I was talking about which is the same answer I've received in the past on a couple of other questions such as how much to change the trans fluid which they tell me they don't do because it's a life time fluid.
To get to the HVAC filter, you have to remove the wiper arms and the intake grill. The filter is a strange looking one, but I thought it was a dealer installed option. It just snaps in front of the intake chamber. Since this was a dealer installed option, very few were ever done and dealers didn't push to have it done. Most dealers and service tech's have never encountered one.
hlgeorge: Here's the info I saw about changing the speed of the fan if you add a filter. This is from Alldata.
Where particle filters are fitted as 'after market' items the A/CCM program must be changed to allow higher AUTO blower speeds; this compensates for the slight loss of air flow. Access to the program is by PDU. Vehicles with filters fitted OEM will have this facility enabled by Jaguars Cars Ltd.

As far as I know USA car were not shipped with cabin filters installed. I took my car apart and no cabin filter and the frame is no longer made by anyone. I even tried the UK and was told it was discontinued. I wanted one because we use the car in the winter when the roads are clear.
