Default Springs question about replacement specs

I've watched many discussions about changing springs. Ride height, therefore length of spring, seems to be the primary consideration when choosing.

I wanted to ask a couple of questions and get smarter.

1) it seems that lower ride height = better performance. Is this true or are there too many other variables to make a blanket statement like that?

if the later ( too many other variables) could it be potentially detrimental to put Silverstone springs in a regular XK8?

2) I've never seen discussion about spring return rate or coils per inch. Guess I'm thinking that different springs from different manufacturers may (will?) perform differently under stress.

compression: given a 1 ton force will all these springs compress the same distance in the same amount of time?

Rebound: pressure changes from 2000 lbs to 1000 lbs. Will they all decompress to the same height at same spped?

Perhaps I should have changed the question fro all these springs to all these springs of the same length.

Like I said, I've never seen this mentioned. Maybe the variation, which must exist to some degree, is insignificant given the brainpower on this site I wanted to ask and learn about it

thanks, john

I am interested in the feasibility of fitting Silverstone suspension parts (springs, sways, shocks) to an ordinary XK8 or XKR as well; I wonder if it would only be compatible on cars with the CATS suspension?

It's kind of along the lines of JaguarXKR's recent question too: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ension-207971/

Stiffer springs (most shorter ones) would require matched shocks when it comes to better performance
