Smile Idea on trans tempt measurement

I have been doing a little research on changing the transmission fluid in my 2000 XK8 in the near future. I reviewed Sams' video and to measure the oil tempt he used a laser remote device. I don't have one and came up with a way that I think will work. Why not use one of those indoor/outdoor thermometers. They have a little probe on a wire you use for the outdoor measurement. And after the fluid starts to run out insert the probe through the fill hole into the oil and run the car. When the tempt gets to around 35 deg C, for those of you on the other side of the pond, pull the probe out and be sure it is completely full. Of course one would have to calibrate it first to be sure it is accurate and also be sure it does not disolve in the fluid.

What do you think?

I think that would work quite well. At Walmart I bought one of those meat thermometers that you just leave in the meat and a wire goes out the oven door to a little digital display. I checked it by putting it in a pot of boiling water. The thermometer was accurate to within 2 degrees. The thermometer I bought was only $15.

Northern tools has the laser temp tool for about 15 dollars. If there is not one in your area, you can always do mail-order.

Also, I found this link that show that our parts are the same as Mercedes benz but only twice as expensive

5HP24 Dip Stick

This link shows a dipstick conversion for ZF 5HP24's. Has anyone tried to install a dipstick tube?

Interesting, but it doesn't look very easy to get that installed over the exhaust pipe. It may require removal of the exhaust system.
