Default Idle Limited to 3000 RPM?

Odd question...

I got home today and had the wild thought of revving the engine on my 2002 XKR in the driveway, just to see what it sounded like.

I got it up to 3000 RPM, and then it cut itself back to 2900. I kept accelerating, and it never got past 3000 RPM...just kept fluctuating right at that point.

Is this what they're supposed to do? I plugged in my ODBII tester and no fault codes were present after running the diagnostic tests.

Advice is appreciated!

Dave

Yes it's limited to stop you trashing the transmission!

Did you try to rev it in neutral?

Actually, I was trying to rev it while in Park. Used to be able to do that in my last car (though didn't try it on my last Jag though...)

N/As can rev past 3k, Rs cannot...wonder what that says about the intelligence of either owner? It could go both ways I suppose.

PLEASE! The rev limiter is active when the car is in park - my R will rev well past 3K when in neutral. Plus, with the modifications, it sounds so good, I can't even describe it.

foiled by Neutral!?! I thought it was in both 'idle' gears. Hmmm, good to know.
