Default If you don't put your seatbelt on...

what happens? Do you get a light? Does it 'ding' you (or other irritating noise)? Or does it just mind its own business and gives no warning?

Multiple selections are allowed, so if you get both a light AND an audible alert, you can choose both.

Post year also please.

My 2003 doesn't give a squat if the belt is latched, either driver or passenger. I try not to take it personally, that she just doesn't care about my safety. lol

NOTE on the Poll
- 1 vote for the Visual, 1 vote for the Audible warning from Jim's Audi

You know, I have no idea. I like to be held in my seat so I always buckle up unless i'm just pulling in the garage, etc, and I can't remember. I'm planning to pull the car from storage today (finally!), so maybe I can report back.

Audi A6 - I have an audible warning and a red flashing seatbelt sign on the dash....The audible warning gets progressively louder and activates for around 2 mins before going off!

I also have the autohandbrake function. When sitting at traffic lights etc with the handbrake activated and ready to move, I just have to depress the cluth and hit the accelerator and it disengages automatically.
A great little feature, but it doesn't work if your seatbelt is not on!

Matt
That is a good question, I figured the previous owner had it disconnected and I'm OK with that. I use the safety belts all the time but I don't miss flashing lights, bells and or whistles.
I would think these cars had that feature of a warning mandated by the Feds.

97 XK8 - When I turn on the ignition, a no-seat belt warning light appears and the warning ding sounds three times. Then the light disappears and the sound stops.

It actually doesn't care if I'm belted or not. It just gives me the reminder when I turn on the ignition and doesn't mention it again. I kinda like that though.

So, I'm not sure how to vote. 3rd option I think.

Oh, but the 3 dings could be considered key in ignition or some other warning or notification, but as soon as the 3 dings completes the seat belt light goes off, so... whatever.

I thought the same thing Doug...somehow disconnected by the PO, but now I doubt that is the case. Looking forward to seeing the poll results on this one.

How would I know? I always use seat belts, I've already suffered the pain of not having used them. And I see pictures and hear stories of what happens when peeps don't - daily. It's the business I'm in...

Honestly I never really paid any attention to the three dings I thought they where pre-ignition. My Explorer will chime about every thirty seconds until you buckle up. This will keep going, but I've never went pass a couple of minutes. When I start the car I allways leave the igintion on like I do with my diesel and let everything boot up on the Cat,then start the car.

I get an audible ding and a red seatbelt light on the dash. Both disappear after a few seconds. I always buckle up, by the way. Don't you?

I'll have to defer testing until the steering column is back in position. ;-)

With all of the different vehicles I drive each day I'm kinda burnt out with start-up signals and alarms. My cars, their cars, their vans, trucks, fire trucks, ambulances, low oil and/or air pressure, ECU and radio boot-ups, flashing lights out the wazoo, battalion tones over the radio, etc., etc. I guess I tune them out for the first thirty seconds or so and wait to see what shakes out afterward.

Or, maybe I buckle up before I turn the key....

Tried it out. Got nothing. I don't wear seat belts half the time. I know it's bad but whatever. the 98 XK8 doesn't care. The Camaro will have a redlight on the dash half the time.

I get a warning light that goes out after a couple of minutes. No ding at all.

Yeah, I never paid attention either.

Apparently part of the three dings is ignition and systems check... at the end of the 2nd ding, all the other system check/warning lights go off, but the seatbelt warning stays on till the end of the third. And the car doesn't care if you have the seat belt on or not.

I paid closer attention when I went for a ride earlier. lol

Not to get on a soapbox, but we already lost one member here to not wearing his seatbelt. If you do not wear it for yourself, or your friends here, then wear it for your daughter.

Nuff said.

Took the Jag on another joyride today and when I was putting her away I tested this. 2000 XK8 - No noise, no lights, nothing. Very nice.

In my California 1998 XK8, a loud siren and red lights go off... on the cop car behind pulling me over and writing a $124 ticket for not wearing my seat belt.

I was wondering that about a week ago. Nothing ever tells me anything... except the Wife and Kids!!! That is the best alert anyway!
